Cheapest phone ever: say hello to the $4 Freedom 251 flagship

Indian manufacturer Ringing Bells has created what is said to be the world’s cheapest smartphone. The Freedom 251, which goes on sale tomorrow (February 18) in India, will cost the equivalent of US$3.67 – about the price of a mid-sized Starbucks latte.

Ringing Bells had previously claimed its device would cost less than 500 Indian rupees (US$7.30) but according to the Freedom251 website, it's gone some way beyond that. The site lists the device at just 251 rupees (US$3.67).

The phone sports a 4-inch 960p IPC LCD display, 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 3.2 MP main camera, 0.3 MP front-facing camera, 8 GB of internal storage space and 1 GB of RAM, and is powered by a 1,450 mAh battery. These specs are slightly more powerful than those of the HTC Desire X, which is three years old and currently costs around US$95 new on Amazon.

In addition, the Freedom 251 will run Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box and will also support microSD cards and 3G connectivity.

We previously reported on an LG smartphone that costs less than a cinema ticket, read more about that story at the link.

Would you buy this Android phone for US$4? Let us know in the comments.

I don't think think phone is going be delivered and it is not approved by BIS. Till now more than 1 million people registered than means they have already made 25000 $ that is enough to start a new company.
Any way i have already booked 2 phones and I think this phone will spy on you if it release. Let's wait and see.

  • I am sorry to say that, I am not Proud to Be Indian here in this context. This is not a Make in India Phone or something we Indians broke apart new things or innovations. It is just a rebranded Adcom phone ( Mark that whitener at the front and sticker at back). Again the company requires 4 months to deliver(Rs 40 INR for delivery). From the look of the site, it looks scam. So, finger crossed. Do not give hype. This is not Indian Product.

  • Hmmmm only 8gb internal memory? 5 of that will be taken up by the OS so that leaves 3gb. Not gonna be able to put much on it then!

  • A great looking phone in the pictures.
But... that's not the phone you are getting for your 251.

  • its a bad site. Cannot hold large amount of traffic.

Its a scam site was constant crashing n delivery date is 4 months from order there is no confirmation email by company also

  • Indians got talents dudes!!!

  • will we be able to order if not in India or is it only gonna be on sale over there like ? my guess is that either its exclusive to India or sellers will bump up the price for international sales &/or charge silly amounts for international postage, shame really if thats the case 🙁
