Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update

Verizon began to roll out Marshmallow for the Samsung Galaxy S5 on May 31, 2016. The update introduces Google Now on Tap, Doze, Ultra High Quality Audio, as well as many other Marshmallow features you may have heard of during the last year (and 20 preloaded apps that you may not want to have installed). You can read the full release notes at Verizon's dedicated page.

It may take a while to hit all devices but you can check the software update page in settings > about phone > software update to see if it's ready for you. We advise charging your battery life to above 50 percent before beginning the installation procedure.

Sprint updated its Galaxy S5 devices to Android Marshmallow in April and T-Mobile followed suit last week. AT&T is now the only major US carrier yet to upgrade the S5 to Android 6.0.

Sprint Galaxy S5 update

Sprint pushed a follow-up Lollipop patch for the Galaxy S5 on August 5, bringing it up to software version G900PVPU3BOG1. The only change listed was a patch for the Stagefright exploit.

The Android 5.0 update for Galaxy S5 owners with Sprint (model number SM-G900P) can now be downloaded OTA. To see if the update is waiting for you, just go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update.

Verizon Galaxy S5 update

Verizon has rolled out another update to the Galaxy S5. Though it still sits on Android 5.0, the update adds a patch for the Stagefright security exploit. The Samsung Galaxy S5 5.0 Lollipop update is now available for those with Verizon devices (model number SM-G900V). The Verizon Galaxy S5 firmware now sits on build number G900VVRU2BOG5.

T-Mobile Galaxy S5 update

T-Mobile recently pushed out the Android 5.1.1 update to Galaxy S5 owners over-the-air. The update brings the Galaxy S5 up to software version G900T3UVS1FOJ4 OR G900TUVS1FOJ4, and includes security updates.

AT&T Galaxy S5 update

AT&T pushed out the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update on 22 October, bringing the device to build G900AUCU4COI5. Head to Settings > About phone > Software update page to download it now.

Galaxy S5 Android Lollipop update (UK)

The Galaxy S5 Lollipop update has been available in the UK and Europe for a while. Samsung's latest update brought its SM-G900F model build number up to version G900FXXU1BOJ1 and included security, battery use, and RAM and memory management improvements. This also means that the Samsung Galaxy S5 in the UK is now secured against Stagefright threats.

Reason for updating is phone will not connect to Microsoft Intune, for corporate email. Running out of tricks.

AT&T has now released marshmallow for the S5 active. Downloaded OTA (wireless) today 10 Sep 2016, version 6.0.1, security patch level August 1, 2016. I bought a used S5 active to replace my S3. The S5 came with 4.4.2 installed. Using the software update page, it went from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 to 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 with each update requiring a manual check from the update page.

What a load of rubbish. Don't do it wish I stuck to old version. Phone so slow. Takes ages to start up. I had voice mail which I've deleted but the icon is still stuck on screen. Short cut for making calls now doesnt work. Its no longer one tap and ring. I might as welk go tgrough contact list it be quicker.Only difference I can see is icons now have rounded edges and I take age to restart plus short cut to calls made longer. Cant view mesaages etc while in apps....Who in the bright spark momen thought of this rubbish....

My peeking option has disappeared. Now only notification icons show up on the notification bar, no previews of the message or who it's from. I have to go into the pop up box or into the app to see. All I have is preview option for lock screen and pop up box. This is frustrating because while I'm in another app and I get a text message or email I don't know who it's from anymore until I open it up 😠

Well, worry not. Create a backup and then perform a factory reset of your device. That should help it.
If you still face the issue, download a firmware and install it manually.

Yes this latest update has ruined the apps on my S5 phone. Alarm clock app no longer alarms. News article apps you cannot click on the articles. Google maps app going haywire. All over the last 2 days since the updated was forced on my phone. I've never seen an update be so destructive to a device. There's no way the don't test the updates on a phone before being released.. the fact that they release it and jam it into our phones anyways is appalling.

Just received the update this morning 3/3/16. Since then the phone has automatically rebooted on it's own approximately 20 times, runs hot, the screen freezes, and/or will not wake up and I've had to pull the battery at least 10 times. Called Verizon who put me in touch with Samsung who said I need to take it somewhere for a software reflash.

Music stops playing randomly, wifi turns on and off, the typing is all jacked up and misses my key strokes, system crashes, the battery drains, the phone runs hot... I'm pretty much done with Samsung phones. I truly believe they pushed this $%^&ty lollipop update because it was SO BAD just to force you to get the S6. I had no issues with my phone prior to the update so I know that's the reason I'm having problems and there's no need for snide comments about snot on my screen or anything rude like that. However I would appreciate if anyone had constructive suggestions for me.

I have hade enough of samsung devices
I am getting mostly the same bugs like everyone here.
    Musik player stops mid song
Smart manager crashes almost per hour
    Unresponsive lock screen.
Accept/denie calls frees with incomming calls
My email wount sync ( i have set it to push )
Apps frees/crash constantly (restalling helps not)
Factory reset helps nada nix nothing
Hade my S5 to rep, took 2 days to reinstall OS and still did nothing to bugfix this pos.

Samsung takes way way too long to prepare thise updates, Its terribly emberasing for them being a larg international corporation to have F'ed up like this, (remember the 840 evo ssd) but i am not sorry for them. I'll just not buy there products anymore.

My advice: call in your losses, try and get your mony back if you can, and get the Wilyfox Storm if you arent intrested in crApple devices.

Due to your lack of ability to spell properly, and inadequate grammar skills one can only assume you are not intelligent enough to operate said devices properly. I have had the device since release and had 0 issues besides a little overheating. Lollipop wasn't perfect but that's Google's software/ OS not Samsung's so don't point the blame at them. I have never had an issue with apps crashing or my "musik" player as you would call it crashing/ "freezing" . Many of these issues can be helped by proper maintenance much like a desktop computer and not downloading non-trusted or sketchy apps. I have no problem swiping to answer calls, maybe instead try cleaning your phone screen and protecting it so your snot doesn't hinder it recognizing your actions. E-mail syncs just fine I have it sync every hour with 5 different accounts just fine. Nearly any issues that you are coming across are due to your own actions. Have a wonderful day.

I remember i had some serious battery issues after updating to 5.0 but i didn't panic. Waited out a couple of days with repeated restarts and it improved quite a bit, but in the end it was slightly worse then it was back in 4.4. 5.1.1 update overall felt like a downgrade. Restarting didn't help. So i backed up my phone and factory reset like ATT service recommended and again i saw quite of bit of improvement. Overall it is better then 5.0 and essentially fixed most of the issues. Definitely a faster firmware in comparison to 4.4 :). As for the device itself....honestly there were VERY few occurrences of lag, freezing, crashing or hanging lol.

This update is a disaster. Everything crashes, the battery life goes from full to zero in an hour without usage. The screen won't respond when a call comes in, apps open and close randomly - in short, avoid it like the plague until they get it sorted.
I have had to reset my phone and spend days getting it set up as I had it.
Samsung should warn users about the downsides instead of pushing the update via pop-ups at Beta stage.
    Really annoyed!

Absolutely garbage! I did the T-mobile software update two days ago on my Galaxy S5. Now my phone is useless. Swipe my hand across screen for screenshot takes 15 seconds to process and take the pic, have to wait 15 seconds for most commands on FB to process, and have had many apps force close or crash. I was totally happy with the older software. Phone was fast and smooth. Now its barely able to function! I'm very disappointed, it almost seems like they pushed this out just before the holidays so everyone goes out and buys a new phone. I almost never used WiFi and always used 4g lte. I jumped on a friends WiFi and was promt to update phone (since it apparently can't be done over 4g LTE) I wish I never had done it. Was totally happy with phones performance before the update.

T-mobile galaxy S5 Yes, I just did it 2 days ago and I am frantically trying to go back to what I had before. This software update is terrible. My phone takes 15 times longer to process things, pages crash, apps force close, and everything is choppy. Do not install this update! I am sceptical about it and think its a ploy to get people to buy new phones for the holidays. I was happy with my S5 performance before and wish I would have read the reviews before I made the switch. Also the battery drains much faster. Hope this helps-

The dam phone is not that old and Sprint/Samsung refuses to push updates. I was really hoping for Marshmellow, but now I can't wait to get rid of it. I don't even know if I will get another Samsung, might go with the LG. I have had Samsung products for years, but this damn phone is almost useless, and I don't know if Samsung evens knows these bugs. Sound like not.

Hmmm - I have had my S5 for well over a year and get a day - day and a half of battery life. I have a lot of apps installed and I use it quote quite a bit throughout the day. Sounds like you have an app or several apps running your battery down. Try one of the battery life extender apps. They monitor and alert you of these type of apps and show you too hibernate them until you actually need them, thus extending your battery life tremendously. The S5 is designed to give you at least a full day of over moderate use with plenty battery left.

If your battery lasts over a day then you're definitely a light user, an average user will only get 10-12ours from it and a heavy user like me will get about 8. Also battery life extender apps tend to do more harm than good since they constantly run in the background which both uses RAM and battery even when the phone is idle.

The table shows no 5.1.1 planned for Sprint Galaxy S5 and that simply isn't true. The carrier states that it's still developing 5.1.1 and all Sprint customers will receive OTA when their team deploys sometime soon.

Absolute rubbish. Samsung kies is garbage. No such direction happened and I am stuck with a phone functioning at a less than adequate standard, given the amount I pay per month I am disgusted. The only reason I can think of is that each carrier installs their own software in the image, with "bloatware apps" that you almost never open and just take up space. If you get your phone through payments instead of buying it outright then you get their operating system version. When updates come out they have to test them with their apps and such and create their own update image.

This rollout of ATT/Samsung 5.1.1 is a complete disaster. Constantly says installation interrupted and then you have to wait 24 hours to try again. Of course you can change the clock and "fool" the system but then realize you could set the calendar for 10 years out and it won't work. Something is inherently wrong with the damn update.

The most solid fix I have heard of is to take the phone to Best Buy and they can do it. That is a 3 hour round trip for me plus the install time.

This is stupid! Don't these people Samsung/ATT check this crap first???? And what is with the one try in 24 hours. Some programmer needs his A$$ kicked for that brilliant idea.

I left Apple because of their crappy update situation. Little did I know I was leaving the frying pan and jumping into the fire.

Recommend that while your phone is still on, you do a power cycle (soft reset) by simply snapping off the cover, pulling out the battery for a few seconds, replace the battery, snap on the cover, and power up the phone. Once it is rebooted, and you can unlock the screen, go back to the settings, down to ABOUT DEVICE, and SOFTWARE UPDATES. When I did this, it said that I had an update. I was hoping I wasn't going to have to re-download that 609.83MB file again though. Fortunately, after I tapped CONTINUE it said it was going to reboot the phone. I hit ACCEPT, and it proceeded with the installation process. After the Application Omptimization the phone said FINISH. And, it was done. When I went back to ABOUT DEVICE it said that it was on 5.1.1 instead of 5.0.
Recommend uninstalling/reinstalling tool apps like system analysis/cleaner and Antivirus apps, and cell signal and cell tower apps to recalibrate them for the new system. Also recalibrate the GPS.

I am a T-Mobile customer with the Galaxy s5, ever since the original 5.0 update I have had issues. First it was the non-stop vibration settings, then the battery drain, then the overheating. When I got the 5.1.1 update, the vibration settings were fixed, battery drain was not as bad, and the overheating is gone, BUT the fingerprint sensor does not work at all and I am having a weird video playback issue as well. Some websites and apps that play video on loops, the loop tends to stop right after it plays the first time, then it glitches and the sounds plays but the video doesn't, then the video just stops all together. It is the most annoying thing I have experienced with this phone. I have tried rebooting, factory resetting, and wiping the cache and all user content. It still does not function properly. Anybody else with this issue?

On Samsung S5 SM-G900FD 5.0, since Android update, I have also a specific problem with texts. The SMSC address (the phone number of the server that handles the SMS texts) gets changed to a wrong number in the message application parameters. I believe it happens when the phone changes carrier because it is changing region / carrier (roaming). So, texts don't leave the mobile any longer. It is a dual sim phone so the issue hits both sims / carriers.
    Temporary solution / workaround:
    1) ensure you asked for a receipt for your texts (go in parameters to change if necessary) otherwise you will not notice they did not leave early enough; and,
    2) go in parameters and change the SMSC address of your carrier to the right number. I now keep them with me as a note in the phone (easy to find on internet but not always in middle of nowhere e.g. +352 621 100 660 for Join Luxembourg & +32 475 161 616 for Proximus Belgium in my case).
One of the operators contacted was well aware of the issue and answered immediately because many complaints from customers as to why texts didn't work anymore. So, I am definitely expecting 5.1.1. soon! Belgium

    Do not buy Samsung!
I sent a Samsung S6 to service on 18.09.2015 through CARGUS courier together with the above written address (WITH HEADER) on which I wrote:
“Malfunction: the screen is not working, it does a flash when I press the start button; when I connect it to the PC, it says that he has no more data in it.

The side scratches are from having the phone in the bag, sometimes near keys, considering that till now 2 smart covers were broken and one bumper was enlarged. It wasn’t dropped or smashed.

The phone has a protection window applied on front and back from the moment of purchase.”

When I asked an employee from Germanos that held my phone in his hand what to do, he told me to send the phone through courier.

When the phone was picked up by the CARGUS courier, it was verified by the representative and it didn’t have a broken screen. According to the AWB script, the phone was received by ESD-ROM on 21.09.2015, at 10:34.

After 3 days, today, on 24.09.2015 at 11:39, I was called by an employee that told me that I lost my warranty because the phone suffered mechanical shocks and it has the screen broken.

I asked her to send me a written notice with pictures of the phone. I’ve received the pictures (now the phone has a broken screen!!!) and the following message:
“Please tell us if you wish your product to be fixed by changing the screen and frame with a total cost of 1130,04 RON.”

The phone was bought on 11th of June 2015.

Next time when I’ll buy a phone, I’ll think twice before buying a SAMSUNG!

My question is: if the phone has a broken screen, how did I lose all my data from the phone?????? This was the reason for which I sent the phone to service in the first place!

I recently updated to the new thing. I kept post poning it for up to two days. I seriously hate the lag. It takes forever for things to load. Driving me crazy. I wish there was a way to go back to normal? My phone was way faster. Seriously getting mad about this. Please fix it.

Samsung refuses to correct the issue on their own dime. I dI'd everything they said and the lagging, freezing and crashING is still not fixed. It got worse after this past update. Samsung is telling me I have to pay to get it fixed when it is their problem.

I have not had any issues with this phone previously. However after the update last week (~8/13/15) my s5 has been pocket dialing, pocket texting, dropping calls, not connecting calls, losing service, and changing back light settings. I have no idea how one update can disrupt a phone so much, but my buddy has confirmed the exact same issues on his device which recently updated.

If anyone knows a fix to these latest issues on this update please let me know.
    - yes we have tried hard reset and turning it off and back on.

Well i'm very happy with lolipop ! I hated jellybean so it was a relief for me when it came out.
I'm sry For those who complain about Samsung.. I never had a bug with the phone... (Samsung S5) Fast and precise. Sure it Takes a bit more of the energy but release more quality and the 3d Flipping just love it ! Tire of earing those Painfull Apple lovers who think that they have the best Phone !

By the way, Samsung sells and create part for almost every others brand and Also for Iphone ;-)
My last phone was a Sony z2 wich i think were the best... Due to water damage, lost the phone and everythings Sony never wanted to cover my phone, stated that the pool water can damage the device by eating the selling and come inside by the water pressure wich i never cross their stated limit.. Sony should have watch more their making manifacture for a big leak wich lead to the death of the phone ... Unfortunatly, i lost 700 $.

After i went For an S5, what i good move it was. Faster !, The Amoled Screen make its Oustanding ! Waterproof went better !

Now i stick to Samsung !

Got an S5 in January - it was so good (brilliant almost) that my partner got one too. Then came the Lolipop update - total shit on both phones. They have most of the faults mentioned here but the most annoying are the battery life has halved & they get very hot (so hot that I'm surprised they keep functioning) oh & it struggles with a signal indoors now - even a friends old iPhone on the same network connects when my S5 doesn't. We're in England and have laws to protect consumers, they make the retailer (EE in our case) repsonsible, but their attitude - send it in and we'll have a look to see what's wrong. I know what's wrong - it's the upgrade stupid - so just pressurise Samsung to fix it! I've tried many of the suggestions given in this and other forums to no avail - anyway why should I spend my time trying to fix a manufacturers error as I do actually pay lots for the privilege of owning this phone? Any other consumer item and I'd be back in the shop thumping the counter & demanding a replacement. Crap Samsung total crap - we've had loads of your phones over the years but never again.

And this is why I rooted my phone (despite the whole KNOX issue...shame on you Samsung) and locked in 4.4.4 which actually works...really well. I have been perusing the forums though in hopes that 5.1.X would come around and fix all the snafu's but obviously that has not yet happened. I am now seriously considering going to Cyanogenmod CM12.1 even though I really like TouchWiz and have spent an exorbitant amount of time tuning, getting it just the way I want it, (lean, mean and fast as hell). I wasn't really looking to do that until this phone came off of contract but that's still 6 mths away and StageFright has me concerned enough to consider making a move early. I've already taken steps to block any attacks from MMS, but it really concerns me that something that deep in the kernel is there in the first place and I wonder what else is lurking in my old kernel version that could end up biting me in the arse.

I know this much....it will be a while before I plunk down another 600 - 1000 USD for a hand held computer....er I mean "Smart Phone" that has an OS written by a company with questionable testing and release practices and supported by "Sawyaco Ming" Phone manufactures. I think from now on I'll just stay a couple revs back from the new device circus and save myself a whole ton of time and $$s.

I don't know how you feel about rooting your phones but if I had upgraded to 5.x I would root my phone and flash the stock 4.4.4 ROM back in or consider going with CM12.1 (Cyanogenmod). It really sucks though that end users have to go to such lengths to "self support" an expensive high end product, from the likes of Samsung and Google. I probably won't be buying another Samsung (and I own a bunch of them) unless they seriously re-evaluate their system support level. That said, I'm not *ever* going to buy an "iBlown". Despite all the recent issues, my Android devices are still way more awesome, way better and can do way more than any Crap-Apple product running eyesoreOS.

Ever since I did the original update,OS change, my s5 has turned to complete utter shit. I did the newest update a few weeks ago and that seemed to have fixed most of the issues, until.. My battery died on the way home from a trip. When I got home I was able to finally charge it but since then it's not worked properly AT ALL. I'm basically pulling the battery out every time I use it because it's in a constant state of frozen. I contacted Samsung and we went through the factory reset steps. I wasn't able to use the factory reset option in the settings due to the phones constant freezing. Needless to say, factory resetting it did absolutely nothing to solve the issue. If anything its worse now that I'm not even able to download any of my apps. I'm certain the motherboard is fried. I'm seriously considering going back to iphone and I despise Apple. Samsung ruined a good phone with the OS change. Even my husband's S6 has occasional problems. Get it together Samsung before you lose customers!

I am leaving it as it is and keep using it with KitKat - it works. I am not sure when Rogers/Canada will get any patches and bugs to my phone and I have my phone on MUTE all the time. I use the vibrate to alert me. I also have some other download waiting to be installed (SWUPDATE zip file)? I have never dealt with zip files before not starting now. I have the Samsung Gear Fit watch which I wear daily and love love love it, and that Lollipop may change how it functions. I personally own a Samsung ATiv notebook as well and have over 30 updates from Windows that will not download/install at all. Freezes the notebook up. Samsung I may just buy an iPhone!!

Kill me just...kill me..The browser lags, keyboard freezes like mad.. screen lock button stalls + home button when that happens. It acts as if I have 1mb of memory left and its sluggish when i literally only have 5 tiny apps ..5 dang apps. Music on SD. I just purchased the MHL adapter 2 weeks ago. can someone please assist me if you've had this problem. to be honest I cut off my cable and his is my only source of tv entertainment.

Really hate the update. The icons look just like an iPhone. If I wanted that look I would have bought another iPhone instead. The WiFi dosent work half of the time now. I don't get message or call notification. Constant call drops, never had that problem before. My ringer volume will just randomly lower itself with out me touching it. You need to come out with a Lollipop downgrade to the previous version.

Aus model for s5 sm-g900i. Phone's wiped all my music whitch i made all 34 tracks been at least 80 hours of work. . Gone without any explanation to why just vanished one day after i got the 5.0 update. I turned my s5 off to charge it properly only to turn it back on to find all music gone from the phone been the the music app itself. Know i should of done a back up but for some odd reason Samsung kies apparently is not compatible after lollipop. That only half the problems otheres battery decreased by 30% on full charge. Apps for closing regularly laggs, miscellaneous things running, phone its self has had bugs eva since lollipop 5.0 an considering have clean masters to help yet they cant keep track of the system it basically got a mind of its own i know how to run android to its fullest potential with out all this happen which i had running at 100% all the time compared to substantially losing its idk even know. . I be quite honest i am tempted to take it back to a shop an get a HTC m9 which seems to be 5.1.1 and fully root it before i put anything on it an run it of software custom built so at least it wint do this .. or even do the same with a brand new s5 an root that an remove all Samsungs useless software an start fresh. .... dam i am hating to see the update tbh ...

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5. How long is this update to Android 5.1 supposed to take? "Downloading software update" has been running on my phone for an hour and 20 minutes. Something is drastically wrong.

The software has been trying to update all day. When I force stop it, it just starts automatically again a few minutes later. Has anyone else had this issue?

I called Verizon technical support, and they told me to go to a Samsung kiosk at Best Buy and have them flash my phone with the update to avoid doing a factory reset and having to reinstall all my apps again.

Not having wifi means Not having access to a way to do swift downloads. And it is eating up.my Verizon 6gbs allowlance. Not allowing me my access to.my 3TBs cable/-broadband allowlance instead. Plus the phone is heading up trying to connect to things I loved my phone before things went bad. I wish readythe lolipop update would come back soon.

Once it does continue holding up volume and home button. A non-touch screen will appear. Use the volume rocker to scroll down to clear Cache, use power button to select.....do this 3 time. Once done power phone up again. And watch the phone operate at its best!!

Now it lags, the screen isn't always responsive, I'll be scrolling through something and it'll go white and dump me back to a previous page, the battery drain is ridiculous (I now have to charge it a couple times a day), and it overheats, which is something it NEVER did before. My galaxy tablet also started overheating after the update.

I hate it so much, I was considering trying to rollback to KitKat. I just checked and the 5.1.1 update is available on my phone so I'm going to see if that helps any.

I recently upgraded from a GS3 to GS5 it is running 5.02. I've not experienced any of the major problems others seem to be reporting. In fact I'm loving it. It as yet has not crashed, never had a forced closed msg. My battery life is good and lasts longer than my S3. I'm using my phone lots. It doesn't overheat.

My notifications are available to see on the lock screen, the S5 has a setting that allows you to have profiles associated with your wifi so it stays unlocked while at home.

I use playerPro for my music (best music app) it has lock screen widget's that allow me to skip/play/pause while the screen is locked.

The only issue I've had is my music app Playerpro is no longer able to edit mp3 ID3 tags.

It seems a lot of the issues would be resolved by clearing the system cache or factory reset.

    A lot of unnecessary moaning.

The internet BULKS of complaints about the Lollipop 5.0 standard white background color which results in the horrible black text on a white background.
Now there is a Lollipop 5.0.2 update which hopefully resolves some other problems, BUT NOT A WORD OR A CHANGE ABOUT THE EYES-KILLING WHITE BACKGROUND!
Do we have to wait for a next Android update or could we hope/pray/beg for a simple patch? MR and MSS Samsung please...

I just updated and was reading all of the comments and thought noooooooooo especially with the music

    I JUST FOUND THE FIX!!

    Settings
    Sound and display
    Sounds and notifications
    Scroll down to: Notification
Change "While Locked" to Show all content

This will give the the little notification bar on the locked screen so that you don't have to keep unlocking while driving

I hate this update. I hate EVERYTHING about it. Having to unlock my phone to change songs sucks!
But mostly I hate that it changed the background colour. Why I chose this phone in the first place was the background colour on the calculator and settings and everything else was black. Which is so much better for my eyes (and brain). This for me is not a personal choice it makes my life so much easier when it is white text on black background. I went so far as to ask them to take if off and they cant. I hate it.
    sorry for the rant.

And not being able to have the music options on the lock screen is annoying i dont know why you would take that off. I personally prefer to have the main background colour of the phone to be black but i guess thats not to bad of a change. I just want to un update it

Hey there. You can set you S5 to use Air Gestures to control you music track selection. It allows you to tap the Home button and wave your hand above the phone to advnace or go back a song. Ive seen in this forum as well, that of you go to your lock screen settings and change it to "Show all Content.". With using the Air view feature it will also allow you to wave your hand and to swipe through pictures in your gallery.

What a load of BS I did a clean install of lollipop months ago and it's fantastic there's absolutely nothing wrong with it,the battery life is awesome, all these so called problems are because of the OTA updates either not taking properly or simply needing a factory reset afterwards it has nothing to do with the actual lollipop rom itself being a dud

I am not computer/phone savvy, I have completely lost the ability to connect to WIFI with the latest update. I have gone to Verizon where I was promptly told you CAN'T go backwards and go back to KitKat from Lollipop. So because I am not tech savvy I am scared to death to even try to accomplish this. I use WIFI to connect to my internet at home and work, I am totally dead in the water. Does anyone have a simple method or should I dump the phone or wait to the new push out from Andriod? I have been told to do a factory reset, but no guarantee's it will totally fix the issues. I am welcoming comments help and thoughts, but please remember laymans terms.

    Thank you all

    ****UPDATE***

Hello Scott, this is for you, you said, "The Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is also available for S5 owners on the Verizon network (SM-G900V). The update apparently arrived in two bundles, upgrading the Verizon Galaxy S5 firmware to build number VRU1BNLC."
Are you sure you didn't mean BOC4? Because this is exactly where I'm confused. I thought the very first Lollipop Update was BNLC and next "UPDATE OR FIX"on VERIZON for the G900V WAS BOC4. It stayed at 5.0 on my Verizon G900V. I got it April 1, and if it's supposed to be BNLC, NOT BOC4 then my phone is REALLY messed up. I have the BOC4.

Can you explain which update you are describing up there in your article, please???

I received the first Lollipop Update on my SM-G900V in February. Things were great for a few days, then all hell broke loose. Then after much complaining and trying things from all the big guns for Android, I received the whole new Lollipop update 5.0 AGAIN on April 1st (Ha maybe it was a joke) took forever to DL and afterwards, I searched the web for what just happened to my phone and it was nowhere to be found except this little magazine called Christian Today in their Tech News section, said Verizon had gotten with Samsung and created a fix, but was all new 5.0, not 5.0.1 or 5.1.0 nada, just all new 5.0. Worked AMAZINGLY for about 1 week. Now I'm in it all over again with a completely new set of problems. So I had been putting off the Factory Restore or Reset, whichever one you call it, so I finally took THAT plunge, twice, and nope. STILL MAJOR PROBLEMS AND GETTING WORSE. The last ditch effort was just this week. I'm at a loss. I loved my S5. Had no plans for an S6, after hearing about their probs. Actually I was thinking of getting one, but since April 10th and thinking about not being able to swap out the battery, as I do 3x a day now, I'm not interested anymore. My S5 is less than 5 months old, and it's a piece of crap, now.

Thanks, I've been seeing that a lot in the past 2 weeks and have been thinking seriously about downgrading back to KitKat. Yeah I may just do that. I guess I really expected a fantastic new firmware that was going to do all these great new things that Samsung promised, and having just a taste of them made me want them more and so to FIX it, so many others fixed theirs by just one Reset, why not mine? The "Faster, Better, Stronger" Syndrome. I had it, but after fighting off the Factory Reset, doing it, (TWICE) getting nowhere, except worse, (maybe?) I guess that's all I have left to do. Knowing my luck, I'll brick my phone. I know there is a step by step sure fire way out there, I've seen it on all my tech sites, but.... my luck I'm having....
I got on chat with Samsung dot com two nights ago, and after explaining everything for an hour and a half, we got disconnected. She was getting my IMEI number, and then, just gone. I sat here in tears, just so frustrated and overwhelmed, wanting my brand new S5, I got for my birthday on 9/11, back. I don't overuse my phone. I have a 64 gig SAMSUNG SD card and I make sure to put all that I have a lot of, such as, my photos (that aren't in Google Cloud Photos) music, and videos of my son drumming with his band, on there, so that the phone memory stays at about half full. I do not game. I do not watch or DL movies, TV and the only Videos I mostly watch are the ones I make, then move those to my PC! The only problem I thought I caused could have been the over 8K, yes THOUSAND, photos I've taken. I'm a photog, but they are ALL on a cloud, and on Google Drive and Cloud, as I said above, I've made perfectly sure of that! My SD card has 58gig left on it after me moving a ton of stuff to it. (HOW CAN THAT BE???) My phone memory is at 50%. BUT, and this has always bothered me but I cannot seem to find an answer in any forum, my ROM is almost full. Actually, it's now at 70% and holding, before I got Lollipop it was at 92% and every one that looked at it could not figure out why. I've used so many File Explorers and managers but they all confuse me. I have SD Maid, now, and it is confusing!! I've tried all the TOP Cleaners, and that ROM percentage never moves. Idk I'm at a loss, now.
Thanks for the idea of rolling back to KitKat, looks like it's my LAST-LAST hope.

I got my lollipop update sometime in March with some problems as others but it is running smoothly now. I think I did up to four factory reset at different times before getting to this. My battery life has improved than when I was running kitkat. It last me all day and the percentage is around 40 when I go to bed. I'm a good user anyway especially when I come from work. I come from work with 62 percent battery, it's great.

I've been a fan of Samsung since the S3, but now i am starting to get angry.
This lollipop update is such a enormous pain, it has totally failed to keep the feel of "android" like the previous "candy bar" updates.
My S5 is not my S5 anymore, alot of the control I hade is missing, and I will have to root or roll back just to customise it to the way I want.

    + power problems
    + lag and freeze
    + more bloat ware
    + less options
+ white menus /no option to change
    + runs hot

    and much much more.

I am actively looking for something else to use and the CyanogenMod is looking a lot better then ever to me.

I can only hope that Samsung, Verizon, and Google (I am going to start calling them Giggle because that is probably what they are doing right now). I know it is complicated to roll these updates out anymore, but these companies are making a lot of money from all of us, they should make sure they work before releasing them. I despised this update. It literally ruined my phone. I was in tears for days until I figured out how to roll it back to kit-kat 4.4.4. Features I use and love we're utterly destroyed.

"Interruptions" now instead of "blocking"? I could not figure or how the hell to even begin setting it up, it was so un-user-friendly. Not to mention, you can no longer specify individual contacts whose calls and texts to always put through, even during silent time (like my husband, my elderly parents, etc.).

Notifications POPPED UP on the screen at the top and you could NOT turn that damn feature off. So while you're reading something or playing a game or whatever, every damn notification POPPED UP IN YOUR FACE, COVERING THE TOP OF WHATEVER YOU WERE DOING! And worse still, if you touched it, you HAD to address it right then and there, no swiping it aside to deal with later. A-Freakin-Noying!

And now Verizon is trying to shove the damn thing down my throat again, months after I went to the trouble of backing up my phone, uninstalling that piece of shit, reinstalling kit-kat, finding and reinstalling all my apps, having websites re-remember my passwords ...

    No. Just effing no!

HOW DO I TELL MY PHONE TO NEVER, EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES INSTALL THE LOLLIPOP UPDATE?

Thank you for any help anyone can provide.

Battery life is same like on kitkat once I turned off all Facebook and their messenger push features (now getting notification via email), so battery issue for me looks like issue of 'curved hands' of 3rd part developers. Need to claim Fb.

    Most noticeable pro for me:
    - faster apps speed and touch response.

    Things I don't like:
    - white theme. Everything is white now. (
    - sometime once per day crashed contacts app.

Im now at 32% on my update for the USA version of the S5 Active on AT&T.

I really hope this update don't do what others are saying it does. My current opinion on smart phones and tablets is... They don't need to market upgrading our phones or tablets. They just have to OTA "push" us to have to upgrade our devices. Its all about marketing. And a update that slows down our devices is the perfect marketing tool.

I rooted my Nexus7 (2012). Because it became slower then anything I have ever used. And after rooting. I don't really see the point. Other than my plans to downgrade it's software so I can use it without the huge lags. I really hope Google #android done make me hack and strip down my S5 Active. I like it just the way it is.

I don't like the root idea. But if this new "updating/marketing” download slows down my phone. I'll pay a Unix hacker to strip it down to bare metal and lock it up with just KitKat. We pay good money for our products, we spend extra on protective cases that are military grade. Makes me sick. Ill update on how she works when its done "updating/marketing”

Was this supposed to be an improvement? I haven't found any improvements yet. The phone runs hotter, and the battery drains faster. Apps run slower. Features that I used a lot have been removed. For example, when the phone is locked, I could pres and hold the power button, and set the phone to silent. I can't do that any more. I have to unlock the phone to do that now. When the phone is in Airplane mode, I could easily turn off Airplane mode when I would light up the screen. Now I can't do that.

Either your a liar, don't use your phone much or are not giving a true comparison. My galaxy s5 on Verizons network without lollipop update battery would last approximately 15 hours with heavy use. Got the darn update and playing music only killed the battery in less than 45 mins.

This update is absolutely terrible!! I thought an update was supposed to be a good thing, but I feel like I've downgraded. When I click on my gallery app it takes forever to even load my pictures. I have to hit the menu key, stop all apps, and then *maybe* get the pictures to load without waiting forever. This update has affected other apps as well, but the gallery/picture issue is by far the most irritating. I can't even view pictures that I just took without having the screen freeze up on me. Did they even bother testing this update before making it available?? I also don't care for the fact that all notifications can be read from the lock screen.

I was very delighted when I purchased my Galaxy S5. By far "BEST" mobile phone I've purchased thus far! That is 'until' the big rollout of the "OVER RATED" *LOLLIPOP UPDATE*!!!
I do not even know where to begin with the 'many' issues that have ensued.
Please take my advice, spend a little time (at best) and do your research BEFORE installing!
    *A Few Examples:
1)Battery Life Declined rather than inproved
    2)Battery Temp Is much hotter
3)Absorbent amount of space used for update
4)Apps. Not responding well to update
5)Dropbox App. No Longer able to be stored on SD Card
*These are just to name a few*

Lollipop sucks! I now dislike my phone of six months because I can't read the phone app buttons. How about basic usability as a criterion? Obviously the people working on this did not consider users over 40. All of the buttons shrunk so that the fonts on the buttons are tiny and difficult to read, and the color scheme--a two tone green-- further adds to the difficulty reading buttons.
I am now stuck between my service provider Verizon, who was happy to waste an hour of my time trying to manipulate settings that do not change app design and Samsung, who says Verizon is the party that calls for Google updates to Android. What does Google care about my misery? They did not sell me a phone and I do not send them $90/month.

I am thinking of an early migration to an iPhone at this point.

No battery or overheating issues. I liked it better when in lock you could see just the app notifications on the top bar. Now you have to see the app notification and either part of the conversation you are having or the topic. If you hide it you get nothing. I don't like this new way at all. I have my phone locked for a reason not so people can read my incoming. You can completely turn it off but then you have to unlock to see a notification. With the old way, I could just see i had a bbm or an email and choose not to open it. Now I have to fully unlock every 2 seconds to see. So I could see how that would waste battery. It seems harder now to copy and paste in emails. Maybe I'm not used to it yet.

By the way, there is this concept called QA - which stands for quality assurance and many companies use it to do "QA Testing" I think Android should look into it.

The new deign and colours are horrible, the option to change screen colour would be nice white makes it hard to read the page in bright light, you used to be able to set the date your mobile data allowance started for the month now you can't. This notification on your lock screen with contents hidden is pointless you now have to open your lock screen and go to messages ect. I for 1 got this phone for the way it looked not the way it would be up graded when someone got bored.

Just got the update this morning (S5 SM-G900F). I concur with everyone on the battery issue - lost almost 20% in about an hour! Contacts crashing - this was happening under KitKat as well, but seems to be a little more frequent now. Don't really "get" the new UI - would be better if we could choose our own theme (with the option of going back to KitKat "look and feel").

Also, I used to be able to control audio player with the screen locked (when headset plugged in) - can't do that anymore.

Will post more as I learn more.

The biggest problem with the update is that it cuts battery life to about 1/3-1/2 what it was under KitKat. Many of the screens which come up are less attractive - look like a reversion to the early days of smart phones - but I can live with that. Have not noticed any big problems with how apps work.

I HATE THE UPDATE WITH LOLLIPOP. IT'S SO BACKWARD COMPARED TO KITKAT. My phone app crashes, the colors and settings suck. There are way less options. I hate my phone now, i use to love it, i don't care if i even have my phone on me when i leave home its so useless now. I did the factory reset, much to my disappointment lollipop remained and I never did get KitKat back. Now i've lost alot even tho i saved as much as i could on Sd. I don't have the luxury of having a computer to back things up. It doesn't work any better at all either. I'm so disappointed we spent $600 on this galaxys5 in September, it was a great phone, but now it's ruined. I want my phone back the way it was, damit. Its so much more difficult to use, texting, emailing... Why did they do this to us? Why mess with perfection? This phone had 0 problems before this.

Wow...HATE this new update! And I mean HATE. Not just did it make things so much uglier, it also screwed up a few things that were working fine before, such as:
-Screen brightness. Automatic SB seems to make it dark at random times when either unlocking the phone or getting a txt msg. Happens during the day when its bright out, so I can't see a thing.
-App Unreliability. When doing certain random actions on FB or other apps (pertaining to social networking), I will swipe or scroll and the screen will become all white. For example: in Facebook, if there is a photo album on the page, I scroll and the whole screen goes blank white. Happens a few times.
-Text editor. The little blue tear drop that is moved around to select a point of text to edit has become so difficult to manage and cant be seen where it's placed. They should've gone with the format like Apple that shows a small magnification above where its being placed.
-Notifications. What in the World did they do!?! Locked screen, the notifications.....seriously? It doesnt show me txt's anymore. Also the pull-down notification bar has no improvement and only looks bad.

that's it for now. I'll write/type more when I come across more issues.

I believe it should be noted, a source from Samsung has stated that the Android L update will be available in three weeks time for download in New Zealand.
According to the source, Samsung needs the "greenlight" from both Android and Samsung own management team before proceeding further from retail release.
I hope others from New Zealand will read this, it's been an absolute mission to find the right people to speak to.
    Stay toasty guys.

Since I updated my S5 yesterday, I hate my phone. Battery drained completely in shockingly short time with minimal use. The mute button has gone! How stupid is that? Notifications now show for all to see or read. Lags and freezes and overheats. What a joke. Restored factory settings but it came back with the update still in place. How can I restore back to how it was before this ridiculous, phone ruining update?

If you have a Samsung Galaxy S5, DO NOT upgrade to LOLLIPOP. It compromised my email, rendered wifi unusable, made the phone run so hot that the battery runs down in 4-5 hours with minimal use, and eliminated all notifications before the unlock screen. Samsung's proposed solution? A full factory reset, which erases everything on your phone. Don't upgrade to Lollipop. It's garbage and will render your phone virtually unusable.

Downloaded on wifi, 885mg. I have been watching your site and knew it was coming and what a nice surprise on my day off. Oh, camera now automatically detects low light levels and adjusts the camera. Very cool. Still requires me to input pin at my home. Is that in 5.0, or how do I change it? Thanks for a great read! :)

My advice is to do a full factory reset after the update, clean out the old crap "app data" stored on your SD Card and clean install everything. Start fresh.

Hoping my samsung galaxy s5 on Sprint will get the Lollipop update on 2/5 as in the articles I've read. I've been living with Kitkat 4.4.4 for awhile now, and looking forward to the Lollipop update. I have the zero lemon 8500mAh battery, so plenty of power if I'm away from a charger for awhile. May invest in an external power pack to be safe. I'll write another comment once I get the update and let everyone know how it works out.

Man, lollipop 5.0 on the S5 stinks to high heaven. I am so sick of factory resetting my phone. It's so slow and laggy, eats battery and freezes. Camera and gallery lags, freezes really bad. Apps freeze and FC.

It is awful, I wish I had never upgraded and now I'm going to have to go back to kit kat and reset a sixth time, until 5.0.2 is released.
I would not recommend anybody upgrade right now. The os itself is great and has some lovely new features, but it's just almost unusable.
