Honor V8 price, release date, specs, features

Update: Launch reveals specs, pricing

Huawei has already released two versions of its P9 and now it has unveiled its Honor V8. The launch took place yesterday, May 10, and the device mirrors the P9 Plus in many ways, but comes in at a lower price. Find out the full specs, price and release information below.

Honor V8 price and release date

At the launch event, Honor announced the V8 was to start selling at around $350 for the 32 GB version. The larger, 64 GB, model comes in at about $430.

For comparison's sake, the Huawei P9 Plus launched for about $850.

The device comes in four rather decadent varieties: platinum gold, champagne gold, rose gold and glacier silver.

You can place a pre-order through Huawei's VMall now, although the launch is only officially taking place in China so far. The official release date is May 17.

Huawei Honor V8 specs

We had previously expected the Honor V8 to borrow some improvements from the Huawei P9 flagship this year, and the launch has confirmed our suspicions. The device features the octa-core Kirin 950 processor, only a small step below the P9 Plus' Kirin 955.

Elsewhere, 4 GB RAM provides amply in the memory department. While the V8 comes in 32 and 64 GB flavors, there's always the option to add additional internal storage thanks to support for microSD cards.

Curiously, the pricier model of this mid-range 5.8-inch phablet features a QHD display, a higher resolution than the P9 Plus, which features Full HD. The base model of the Honor V8, the 32 GB version, has Full HD resolution, however.

Huawei Honor V8 features

The Honor V8, like the P9, houses a dual rear camera. This pair is of the 12 MP variety and allows for adjustable focus after an image has been taken, as well as a few other tricks. The unit also plays host to laser autofocus. It seems on this cheaper handset, however, that the Leica branding the P9 touted is not present.

On the front of the device, you're looking into the lens of an 8 MP selfie snapper.

The Honor V8 has a fingerprint scanner, and sees a bump in battery size from its predecessor the Honor 7: up from 3,100 mAh to 3,500 mAh.
