Read in other languages:

The user interface, sometimes simply called UI, is different depending on the manufacturer. For example, Samsung smartphones use One UI, an interface where the design of icons and menus is very different from that on Huawei devices that use EMUI. We would like to know which of these interfaces is your favorite!

You can find more videos on current tech topics on our video page.

Which Android interface do you think is the best? Be honest, it doesn't necessarily have to be the one your current smartphone is using, but the one that best suits your needs and the one you find most beautiful. Below are three of the most popular interfaces on Android, but you can then choose from a larger list which one you consider the best.

Samsung's One UI

Samsung has come a long way in recent years. Until a couple of years ago, the interface offered terribly mismatched colors in an overcoat so modified that it looked like it had a device with flanged potential. Fortunately, things have changed and even if the interface is still not to some people's liking, it has the merit of having become clearer and more mature. Below is a picture of One UI on the brand new Galaxy Note 10 Plus, working with Android Pie.

Huawei/Honor EMUI

EMUI is the interface installed on Huawei and Honor's smartphones. In its latest version, EMUI ( (based on Android Pie) goes a step further than what Huawei had accustomed us to by offering us something soberer, a little more faithful to traditional Android values.

EMUI regulars will see a difference, and Android stock purists will undoubtedly welcome the efforts of the Chinese manufacturer. You can have a preview with the image below, it is EMUI 9 on the Huawei P30 Pro.

Stock Android

Android Stock is the interface for Android purists. Originally the interface of Nexus and some other manufacturers, the reference today is, of course, the Google Pixel phones. We won't get into the question "Is it pure Android or pure Google?" because it's endless, but what's certain is that the closer your device is to using a version close to Stock, the faster (in theory) you will receive updates.

Below you will find an example of Stock Android on a Google Pixel 3a on the latest version of Android Pie.

We have only shown three of them but there are many other interfaces, you will find a lot of information about each of them in our smartphone reviews, so now it's up to you to tell us which interface you prefer. Whether it is on your current smartphone or the one on the smartphone of your dreams, you can choose it from the poll below and, of course, justify your choice in comments.

Don't know much about stock UI been using Nova for many years now..Love it and will not move to a stock UI until I can find a UI with a locking desktop .That's one fiture that I love about Nova Launcher.

It would be interesting to see how closely the user preference matches actual market share

I always use Nova as a UI, regardless of how good or bad the native UI is.

OneUI plays havoc with the settings. That's my biggest peeve with skins. There is no good reason to rearrange the settings and hide certain controls. And search is no guarantee in finding the settings. I wanted to un-mount my SD card. Or eject as I've seen it called. In the OneUI I most recently used, it was only an icon and no text. You couldn't search on the setting/control. Yes it saved some translation but caused more problems for the user.

    1 stock
    2 LG
    3 Oxygen

V30+ is my first LG and I love the OS. Fast, responsive, no crashes.

    But no updates.

So as much as I love it. Don't think will buy a LG again because the updates are so so late and behind the competition.
Oh.. and Moto has a great OS too. Very close to stock but very poor cameras on all of them.

Stock. Surprised you didn't lump Motorola in with stock as well. It's not pure but close enough. And you didn't list them elsewhere.

I consider Android One (Motorola, Nokia) to be basically Stock. As you say, not 100% pure, but not different enough to be considered a proper interface/customization.

Defining Oxygen OS - "Stock like stable Android skin with excellent optimization and only very useful features and enhancements on top of Stock Android which are extremely well implemented and in line with and an extention to pure Android's pleasant look, feel, usability, and maturity as an OS and is timely updated by Oneplus for a long time ".

I like Oxygen OS because it is stable, free from bloat, lag free and very responsive, Oneplus provides fast updates both on monthly basis as well as three major Android version updates, the UI of Oxygen OS is just like Stock Android with only necessary enhancements and a few additional features which are not intrusive. Some of the additional customizations are extremely useful and come in handy for a power user like me. Further, Oxygen OS never slows down unlike Samsung's ONE UI or other heavy skins. For best user experience, considering the fact that overall charm of a smartphone lies how well the software has been tuned with the hardware, Oxygen OS is best and most experienced users confirm it. My second favorite is pure stock Android, second because I seem to prefer optimizations by Oneplus to tune it with the underlying hardware and I believe Pure Stock Android is best for two kinds of people - either very casual and simplistic users or very geeky users like me who can also afford to purchase premium apps in large numbers. Some of the excellent and useful features on Oxygen OS like screenshot management (three finger + expanded screenshot) and alert slider (hardware + software), data sim switcher using One toggle, VPN management, "Full Screen Gestures 👌👌" (which on Stock Android are 🤢), Oneplus's implementation of in display fingerprint sensor and Face Unlock (Face unlock on Stock Android 🤢), power button gestures and other minor enhancements like changing accent color are wonderful, and features like screen recorder and call recording (🤢 on Stock Android), some enhancements for smartphone gaming, display calibration, excellently implemented night mode and reading mode (GOES very dim) all are better implementation than their counterparts.
It is due to Oxygen OS that Oneplus crushes its bitter rivals Samsung (on higher end) and Xiaomi (on lower end) on software experience and sits comfortably at a position where it becomes my and many other people's preferred choice. 😊😊
    Love you David Sir

First, I 've always hated Stock Android. Samsung 's One UI is not my favourite, while I like the LG V30 's LG UX. I also think that Color OS, Oxygen OS and the EMUI are interesting, but I just don't completely like the devices on which they run.

I have a V30+ and agree with you about the OS but the updates on LG are painfully slow and I'm still on Oreo.. LG really needs to pull their socks up and update our devices.

I have a normal (non-plus) LG V30 and I was planning to install LG bridge on my PC to get the update to Android 9 because I 'm tired of being stuck on Oreo.

Stock Android is what I primarily use. But there are times when I get bored with it and use either Nova launcher or the Microsoft launcher.
