Poll results: Black Friday's no big deal

Thanksgiving is upon us, and with it come the busiest shopping days of the year- Black Friday and Cyber Monday, beloved by shoppers and sellers and the dark dread of retail and support workers. Naturally, it's a time that many tech enthusiasts mark in the calendar with an eye to buying that coveted new gadget...or is it?

In our poll, we asked you whether you were going to buy some tech products during the holiday sales, and if so, what kind. But almost half of AndroidPIT readers didn't plan on buying anything at all. 30% just didn't have their eye on anything, whereas 17% expressed disdain for the very concept of Black Friday, finding it too gimmicky. The remainder of naysayers just weren't happy about the discounted prices.

Rusty. H recommends to wait until after Christmas for the best sales - and he's got a point. Prices will be better, even if you've missed the chance to put that product under the tree! Meanwhile, over in Romania, Sorin laments that the best deals advertised just run out of stock way too quickly.

Of those who did buy something, the most popular option buy far was the smartphone. Personally, I was tempted by the Samsung Odyssey + deal, especially with VR games also being discounted.

If you did buy a smartphone or other device, what did you choose? If you forgo Black Friday and Cyber Monday, when do you think is the best time to buy tech?

  • I got my Black Friday / Cyber Monday a week early courtesy of Metro by T-Mobile and Amazon Prime (new phone, new 2 phone contract at lower price monthly, case + screen protector + 64gig micro SD card, Amazon Prime at discount price)!

I'm over faux sales gimmicks! So confident that prices will drop 2 weeks before whatever Holiday in December! But also aware that this dumb "trade war" will make prices go up in 2019! 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • Why 2019? The so called tradewar has been going on for awhile and I haven't seen prices really rise outside of inflation

  • Normally don't fall for the Black Friday scam, but did manage to get a couple of good deals - S9 on contract. Half Price - Galaxy watch £100 off + 25% cash back -

    So I'm now a happy chappy 😉

  • I just found this offer up from PureVPN which has a lot of other things in their package other than the standard VPN thingy that they have. It is a bit surprising for me considering the fact that they are offering exclusive services such as unblocking netlfix us and bbc iplayer along with other online streaming services. They also support like 5 multilogins, multiple vpn protocols etc. But the price they are offering all this for (most probably because of Cyber Monday offer) is really low i.e. $79 for 5 years (roughly $1.32 a month if I break it down). Apparently it is like they would be getting a really low amount as profit out of it, but good on the buyers’ end I guess!

  • I bought UAG Monarch for S8 Plus for $ 14 with free shipping to the other end of the world. And I'm really happy. A real deal, a real Black Friday. 😁📱

  • I chose the s9+ with Verizon. 400.00 off with the device payment plan. 22.00 dollars a month instead of 38.00 bucks. Even the rep I bought it from that he had never seen a deal like this. That's why it only lasted 24hrs. Very happy with this purchase!
