Samsung Galaxy S5 voted as ''least favorite'' flagship

When the LG G3 was launched a while back we asked our readers to vote on their favorite flagship of the year. While we usually have some pretty big Samsung fans here at AndroidPIT, the result of the survey really knocked us for a loop. The Galaxy S5, that holiest of all Android grails, was actually voted to be the worst flagship of 2014.

Sure, the Galaxy S5 copped its fair share of flak when it debuted at Mobile World Congress and our first impressions didn't exactly make us weak at the knees. But given a little time we came to appreciate many aspects of the device (camera and battery performance and so on) and even to admire the phone as a very decent entry. So to see the S5 come out at the bottom of the heap was a big surprise. So which devices topped the good end of the survey?

The Sony Xperia Z2 sat right in the middle of the bunch in third place with 20% of the vote. The just-launched LG G3 came in second spot with an impressive 32% of the vote. Not bad for a day old device. But the number one spot, with 33% of the vote, was snagged by a device that no-one had seen, let alone handled: the Oppo Find 7. Perhaps Oppo's slightly peculiar marketing strategy had been an incredible success, or perhaps it was simply that combination of specs and price, but the Oppo has clearly made an impression on our readers.

When we finally received the final version of the Oppo Find 7 last week we were pretty impressed. Were our expectations matched by what we saw first hand? You'll just have to stay tuned for our full review. And in case you were wondering, to round out the top 5, the HTC One (M8) scraped in just above the Galaxy S5 with 8% of the vote (the S5 scored just 7%).

What do you think of these results? Which device is the best in your mind right now?

"Voted worst"? It wasn't voted worst, this headline is dishonest.
it was the least popular flagship, that is a HUGE difference.

Now if the question was "what is the worst flagship" and samsung won out, that is one thing, but to say "which is your favorite vacation spot" just because the fewest people voted for Hawaii doesn't mean it is the "worst."

eta: I do't think my s5 is the best or worst, I just got bugged by this improper skewing of data.

  • I'm not really sure what to think of this article. There are really only 2 phones in it that you could actually buy on a choice of carriers. The Sony models are really only available on T Mobile. The LG3 is maybe available to actually buy - if they're out of the pre-order phase and the Oppo - GSM vaporware. The respondents are likely a bunch of self-styled counter culture wanna be's who voted for phones that simply are not what everybody else thinks are cool.

  • Well ''voted least best'' doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, and I didn't want to just blurt out the surprise winner in the headline. Because our readers are (or usually seem to be) S5 fans it seemed to be the most interesting result from the survey. But technically you are correct, out of the limited devices listed the Galaxy S5 was simply voted to be the least favorite, but if I put the same devices in a survey and said vote for the worst flagship, wouldn't it stand to reason that the same results would appear? Or is my inversion of positive/negative responses ill-conceived?

  • Samsung Galaxy S5 still deserves the sweet no. 1 spot, experts know this.

  • S5 is horrible just face it numbers don't lie haha

  • Poor Samsung :'( why does everyone expect so much from Samsung ? While every other phone is still the same ( best example the iphone ) Its like everyone is blinded and can't see the real truth. The truth is that Samdevices are wonderful and everyone thinks that they are laggy because they might seen one single laggy device from them like the galaxy Ace and they kept that idea in their heads for years ! Samsung devices got better , way better just after the galaxy S3, the galaxy S4 is great it lags a LITTLE bit, while the S5 never lags , NEVER, unless you try to be smart and open 50 apps at the same time... and don't even forget about the Note 3 , Tab S , Note pro .... Wake up people.

These results really did suprise us, because we thought most of our readers were Samsung fans, but this proved us wrong! Not only does the Oppo Find 7 school the other smartphones, our readers know it, and this was very refreshing!

  • Based on all I read and saw so far, Oppo Find 7 FTW! Specifications, features and price, all in one! And we really need another strong player in the field, someone to shake things up a bit.

  • i dont know coz im using old xperia zl.haha.but in my opinion,Z2 will be my choice.
