The new Moto G 2016: we have a theory

Rumors about the new Moto G (2016) are flying from all directions. A recently leaked video has shown the device with a biometric sensor. The next, we have images of a smartphone that looks the same but which don't have the acclaimed fingerprint reader. What’s going on? Well, I have a theory.

Let’s assume that all the leaks we’ve seen so far are purely to do with the Moto G and that we aren’t getting to see an early look at the next Moto X. Everything we’ve seen, such as the image below, is showing a fourth-generation, 2016 Moto G.
In addition to the above picture, we’ve had leaks via none other than @evleaks - and as you know, he’s a guy whose rumors have proven to be reliable almost 100 percent of the time. His leaks showed what a Moto G looks like with a biometric sensor.
But then, this video was released and generated lots of buzz - but it also raised the question, if the model in the video is actually the fourth generation of the Moto G, where on earth is the fingerprint reader on the front?
The answer, dear readers, is that there isn’t just one Moto G. There are two: a Moto G and a Moto G Plus. Leaked prices and specifications suggest that the Plus has a bigger screen and a better camera…and a fingerprint reader. So Plus means it has all the features of the G, 'plus' more. And in this case, the plus includes a better camera sensor and a biometric sensor. So soon we’ll have two Moto Gs; one with a biometric sensor and one without.

You might be thinking, does Plus refer to a bigger battery too? It’s possible, but Lenovo already has the Moto G Turbo Edition and the Moto X Play to cover that area, doesn’t it?
What do you think? Do you agree with my theory? Let me know in the comments below. In the meantime, here’s a recap of the specs of the current Moto G (2015).

still a SD 410. no point buying it unless it's a SD 650+. I'd rather buy Redmi Note 3 for a lesser price with SD 650 as it gives 80k+ in antutu while the Moto g4 will give only around 25k
Well, isn't a low spec moto G the Moto E? Lol marketing is a hoot. But while I used to recommend Motorola phones as a no-brainer , Lenovo is just bad about Android updates so I just can't recommend them anymore
I'm still on the OG moto X!
the only thing left of Motorola is the name... I'm sure Lenovo will do a great value device but it's not Moto...
Lenovo might release two sizes of the next Moto G
please share the source
GSMArena would be a good place to check..
Imo we will have two variants, yes (or even more). In the Brazilian event invitation says "Moto G exhibition", from what I get of it Lenovo/Motorola will just present some devices over there, it could be two or more. In this article I just said that one variant will be release with fingerprint sensor and the other will be not, but both variants are Moto G. What do you think? I just saw today that @evleaks leaked the new Moto E and I'm pretty sure that one of the Moto G's version will look like that.
smaller lower spec Moto G and Moto G plus, larger with the FP scanner on the front, maybe... I'm hoping they keep up with their great value for spec's tho...
My Last Motorola phone was the Razor, and it always will be my last Motorola phone.
Why Mark? Motorola did a very good job in the last years, at least in Brazil, they made smartphones cheaper and better (specially the low ends and mid ranges). Seriously, Motorola made in Brazil something that Google should have done but never did: the stock Android was made popular in the country by Motorola, never by Google. I think this is really nice. But off course in other markets it is and was different... right?
Poor quality, their phone just did not hold up. I went though 3 of them in one year. Two keypads and one screen.
I have had NO problems with the phone, YOU must therefore obviously be the problem.
Snapdragon 410, 720p display again? Wow.. I wonder how people keep buying the same phone with a slightly different design every year.
