[Rumor] Ice Cream Sandwich Source Code To Release On November 17th

Authored by: Aaron Tilton — Nov 14, 2011

The Source Code for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be available for public download starting on November 17th, at least according to Rohan Shravan, CEO of Notion Ink. While the developers release of Google's new mobile OS was expected in the coming weeks, a November 17th release dates would coincide with the release of the Galaxy Nexus and be well ahead of all predictions.

Android's new flagship, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, is scheduled for a November 17th launch, but rumors are making the rounds that the new high-powered handset won't actually hit store shelves until sometime around Christmas in certain countries. With that in mind, it is still questionable, whether or ICS will actually release to developers and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) on the 17th.

Developers and OEMs need the ICS Source Code to update their current generation devices to the latest Android distribution. If the November 17th date is accurate, that means we could see the first bath of updates for current gen. Devices by the end of the year.

  • The SDK are just the files associated with the Android OS just like Windows has files of it's own.

  • Dumb question but what's the Android SDK? Is that like the Android OS? Or is that something only for developers?
