The battery life of iPhones had never been a major selling point, but this has not stopped Apple from improving it by incorporating a more efficient chipset and upgrading its battery capacity incrementally over the years. A new report claims that Cupertino is even going to boost the batterie capacities on its iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro by a significant margin.

Unlike previous rumors that were cited from notable sources and consultants, details about Apple upgrading the battery capacities of the iPhone series hailed from an insider in Foxconn (via ITHome). Hence, it's difficult to determine the authenticity of it all. However, given that Foxconn is Apple's biggest supplier, such information may come directly from the production line where the next-gen iPhones are currently manufactured.

Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro battery capacities

Basically, the entire Apple iPhone 15 series will receive bigger batteries with the smaller iPhone 15 tipped to feature a 3,877 mAh battery or 15 percent more than the iPhone 14. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Plus version carries a 4,912 mAh battery, or up 12 percent more compared to the iPhone 14 Plus (review).

As for the Pro lineup, the iPhone 15 Pro will be powered by a 3,650 mAh battery, which is also 12 percent bigger than the iPhone 14 Pro. Last but not least, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is believed to feature a 4,852 mAh battery, or about 11 percent larger than its predecessor.

Apple iPhone 15 battery comparison based on the latest rumor:

  • iPhone 14: 3,279 mAh > iPhone 15: 3,877 mAh (up by 15 percent)
  • iPhone 14 Plus: 4,325 mAh > iPhone 15 Plus: 4,912 mAh (up by 12 percent)
  • iPhone 14 Pro: 3,200 mAh > iPhone 15 Pro: 3,650 mAh (up by 12 percent)
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4,323 mAh > iPhone 15 Pro: 4,852 mAh (up by 11 percent)

It remains unclear how much of these new numbers will translate to the real-life usage of each model. For reference, the iPhone 14 Pro Max already lasts more than a day with extensive use in Antoine's review. The enlarged capacity of the next-gen iPhone could eventually make a sizeable difference, perhaps even having it last anywhere from two to three days between charges, especially when one takes into consideration the more power efficient A17 Bionic chipset.

Likewise, the vanilla iPhone 15 and smaller iPhone 15 Pro could benefit from these improvements most considering their undersized batteries. However, the bigger cells could also result in devices becoming heavier and thicker.

Other Apple iPhone 15 (Pro) specs and features

Apart from the battery, the vanilla iPhone 15 is expected to feature a Dynamic Island design, a matte rear glass panel, and a 48 MP main camera. The rest of the range will see the USB-C port replacing Apple's proprietary Lightning interface.

In addition, the Pro models could receive thinner bezels, a titanium frame, and a new action button similar to the Apple Watch Ultra we've reviewed. The iPhone 15 Pro Max may also add an exclusive periscope camera with a fixed telephoto zoom level.

I still remember how amazed I was when I first got hold of the Nokia 3210 back when I was a kid, and it was during that time I developed my love for technology, particularly for mobile phones. I started sharing my knowledge through writing in different blogs and forums back in Nokia Nseries era. I even make videos before where I put different phones side-by-side. Today, I'm still an avid enthusiast of smartphones, but my interests have evolved into smart devices and electric vehicles.
