Poll: What is the best smartphone of 2017?

Today, you can help us pick the best smartphone of 2017. We've preselected from all the newcomers of the year, and now it's your turn to vote: Which makes it to the top of the list this time?

2017 was a big year in the smartphone market. Displays grew as bezels shrank, and the $1000 price ceiling was definitively shattered. From dual cameras to digital assistants, there have been technical trends and iterative innovations on many fronts. It's tough to pick the best smartphone since many of them received similarly positive reviews on our site, though there are flaws with each of course.

If you haven't kept up with all the reviews on our site this year, you might be interested in reading up on our top picks of the year. We've narrowed down the best of the best (at least among Android devices) for several categories that are based on what users might be looking for when they shop, like price, battery life, photography, size, etc.. In any case, we want to know your opinion on the absolute best smartphone of 2017 in any category.

  • Just a general comment. Most people have certain preferences when they are looking for a phone. My current phone is the S7 Edge. A great phone but it is lacking in the audio section. I have read reviews on the S8+ and it apparently the sound will not be too much better although it will be a good upgrade in every other way.
After reading the reviews the Galaxy Note 8 is also a bit lacking in audio?
Apparently one of the very best phones in audio is the xperia xz premium. It has great screen resolution but 5.5. The heavy bezels are to house the stereo speakers. I think this is the phone I'll be upgrading to.
I would be grateful for any opinion on audio quality of phones.
I think reviewers should mention Audio quality more.

  • I use the s8+ the display, camera & battery work well for me. It's got all the features I will ever need!

  • Note 8. $350 after Verizon and Costco promotions. Add pixel launcher, Gboard: it makes the perfect phone. S-pen is very useful. Battery unlike anything I've ever used. Finally a glitch-free Sammy

  • I would have to say the note8. All the premium features you could ever need. The absolute best display, great camera & of course the S-pen. That's my choice!

  • Note 8 might have been a good phone, but who could afford to purchase the phone,if it wouldn't have been too expensive, and too later in the year

  • For me, it is Galaxy Note 8. Brilliant phone.

  • For my purpose, the Note 8. It's the swiss army knife of phones and it does everything well

  • I have recently picked up the Pixel 2 and it's awesome. Really loving the stock Android experience. Although you can't go wrong with most of the phones on the list. It all comes down to personal taste. And what your carrier supports.

  • Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra -- purchased after running the profiles of multiple 6" screenmodels. Almost all the hardware for half the price of Samsung and Apple!

None of them get my vote I just got the LG V20, the last practical phone on the market.

  • Where is the Huawei Mate 10 Ultimate?

  • obviously my vote goes to Apple iphone X only

  • Samsung again brought out the Best mobile screen option with the S8 + S8plus,and this got all the rest worried,Samsung always get the critics on there backs, but without them offering or improving the design of phones, there seems no one really putting pressure on them,Samsung seem to have really improved the software on there phones and the batterylife of there phones lasting longer, the S8plus as been a brilliant phone to use take super photos with the super cameras Samsung offer on there Premium phones, and no worrying about the batterylife on this Super phone, but just can't wait to see the new phones in 2018,but with phones getting more expensive and better cameras, i will be happy sticking with the S8plus

  • The question should read: What smartphon was the less bad in 2017. What we got so far: No headphone jacks, a Pixel 2 XL with a really bad screen and a bunch of others calling too much compromise. A long list of dealbrakers, at its pinnacle the new Iphone with the dent.
