The Mobile World Congress is Barcelona is set to kick off soon and it certainly is no secret that Samsung plans on unveiling their flagship Galaxy S phone during the event. Rumour has it however, that Samsung might be set to unveil a Tizen powered sequel to the Galaxy Gear alongside the S5.

The original Galaxy Gear was launched just a few months ago. At the same time rumours were also doing the rounds that Apple was set to enter the smart watch market with their own offering. That hasn’t materialized just yet and it seems that Samsung came out with a rushed offering the first time round.

Samsung seems to have been taking the criticisms of the device to heart and it seems as though we might even see a Galaxy Gear that is not powered by Android this time. Instead it could be powered by the South Korean giant’s own mobile operating system, Tizen.

According to rumours unlike the original Galaxy Gear, the new one will run a special HTML5 version of Tizen which caters to smaller displays and devices that are less powerful. This would bode well for those who are already familiar with creating web apps and it this can help developers create apps specifically for their smartwatch.

What do you think of what is being rumoured as Samsung’s latest stab at the smartwatch market? Do you think it could succeed? Please leave us a comment below and we will get back to you.

Galaxy Gear powered by Tizen? How would it work with their Note and S product lines? Also I'm not sure i like the fact that they maybe abandoning Android for this endeavor. Although it has to do with them not wanting to help Google...I'm certainly curious about this product but I know will be waiting for Apple's iWatch product as I believe design is critical in this space [wearables].

    • Same way as other non android bluetooth communicate together with android devices I guess..... I think the reason for tizen powered stuff, would be to save battery.
