Using whatsapp on a phone with a US number while in spain and portugal

My phone has a US number registered to the only sim in it. First, while I am in Spain and Portugal, will messages find me there as the 1 country code is for the US? Second, if I buy a local sim while there for the second sim slot for making local calls, will that mess up whatsapp messages to the registered sin in the other slot?

Hi John, the best option is to add a new number with the new SIM. This is strange but it is the best option.
Also, if you are in Spain you can use Roaming. Just talk with your company and try to get a good deal about pricing. If that is not an option, just buy a new SIM. Vodafone is a very good option.
Otherwise, you can use WIFI pretty much in any bat, coffeeshop.
