Survey: what connected gadget would you buy for your smartphone?

Update: Poll added

Smartphones are the center of the consumer electronics universe, with a whole galaxy of satellite products. Right now, 2.1 billion people around the globe use a smartphone. It’s not hard to acquire one and there are many price ranges to meet any budget. That being said, for those people who already have a phone, they are now turning to other connected gadgets that they can use with their smartphone, whether it be for fun, sports, fitness, virtual reality, gaming, robots, drones, homes, cars etc. We want to know, what would you buy next?

The world of consumer electronics is expanding. Not so long ago, most people didn’t own a smartphone, and now with one firmly in their pockets, it is just logical that more connected gadgets and smartphone accessories would come into play and I’m not just talking about a smartphone case or battery pack. Here are some connected device areas where we already see a lot of cool stuff:

Fun smartphone gadgets

Smartphones can control a whole army of cool gadgets, like drones, robots, electric cars. Personally, one of my favorite gadgets are the Snapchat Spectacles.

Health devices

Aside from the usual smartwatches and smart bands, your smartphone can also control or be calibrated with headphones, shoes, bras, you name it. At the CES 2017, aside from the plethora of smartphones, we discovered a bunch of interesting connected gadgets, such as a smart toothbrush.

Virtual reality headsets and accessories

We have already compiled our list of the best VR headsets. This quickly advancing technology is sure to only become more trendy with the accumulation of smartphones that can support VR and an increase in VR games and apps in the Google Play Store or other app stores.

Smart home

With the Internet of Things and connected living, anything from fridges, toasters, washing machines, heaters and air conditioning to stereo systems and home security can be controlled using your smartphone. The advancements in this field have been astounding, with new innovations presented at every global consumer trade show. Now, there are also Amazon Echo and Google Home at your disposal, which act as your assistant allowing you to control your home surroundings with voice commands, as well as access the internet, calendars, music services etc.

Cars

Cars can now be controlled by smartphones, whether to set a destination in your GPS, unlock the doors remotely, turn on the heat etc. For example, Hyundai now allows owners to command their cars with Google Home.

  • Maybe a Smart watch but without a doubt Home Automation not just for the sound system, but gate, garage doors, curtains/blinds, alarm and cctv system and for aircon and climate control systems etc. All connected to my mobile device that is my next purchase. Connecting it to my server so I can open and close everything and switch lights on and off from anywhere using my mobile.

Small submarine, lika a drone, with at least a camera. If it could tie a knot with ropes under water would be my choice so I don't have to dive.

  • A Google self driving car 😍

You're right, there is a lot improvement that is still needed in this area for it to become more common among tech consumers.

My card are a bit older and don't support phones beyond Bluetooth calling. I'd enjoy better Android auto integration, but don't see myself getting it until I replace cars in 10 years or so

  • Look no wires on me Bluetooth headset are a must !

  • BT headsets and fitness bands are the devices i connect mostly to my smartphone

I thought there would be a survey here. :)

I'm looking forward to the expiration of our contract with ADT in July, so we can go with another monitoring service that maybe has a smartphone app, possibly with camera(s), which we don't currently have with ADT. I'm also interested in a Nest thermostat; the one we have is programmable, but it's VERY OLD tech, not smart by any definition, and dang near impossible to see nevermind program. Being able to control my home's security and environment via smartphone would be GREAT.

ETA: also, I desperately want a roomba, so I can automagically vacuum my house, and freak out my cat at the same time. :)

Hi Andria, I added a poll but my reason for not adding one was to give people the freedom to simply say what they would get. Now I have added one to help those who might not know what to write. Thanks for your comment about home security, I also think this is an area I would like to control with the use of a smartphone.

Glad you added the poll -- the mention of "robotic" stuff reminded me that I want that roomba! :-) Not only would my floors get vacuumed more frequently, I can foresee hours of entertainment, watching my cat react to it -- she's scared of EVERYTHING. :-D
