Poll results: your favorite Android UI

Recently, we asked you, our valued readers, to share with the AndroidPIT community which Android UI you like best. About 900 of you have voted, so now we're back to give you the results.

The UI, or user interface, of your Android device is dependent on your phone's manufacturer. Each OEM chooses to offer either stock Android, or their own custom UI that changes the design of the menus, icons and other aspects. That's why using an HTC smartphone feels so different to a Samsung which has its own TouchWiz UI rather than HTC's Sense UI.

In our poll, we asked you to take a look at six different UIs: Samsung TouchWiz, Sony Xperia UI, HTC Sense, LG UX, Huawei/Honor Emotion UI and stock Android. We now know who the winners and losers were.

So many UI choices. / © AndroidPIT

The winners

In first place, the obvious winner was stock Android with 59 percent of the vote. This is no surprise as stock is the purest experience of Android you can get, since it comes straight from Google. This is how the Mountain View firm intended you to experience your smartphone.

In second place, it's Samsung TouchWiz, which is also not a huge surprise. TouchWiz is so common that sometimes people confuse it for stock Android. It's known for its blue, white and grey color palette. Samsung's loyal fan base brought TouchWiz 22 percent of the vote in our poll.

The losers

The other four didn't even come close. Sony's Xperia UI had eight percent, HTC Sense had four percent, Huawei/Honor's Emotion UI also had four percent and LG UX came in last with just three percent. Sorry LG, your UI just isn't that great.

Did you vote for the winners, TouchWiz or stock Android? Or, did you vote for one of the less popular ones? There are a lot of options to choose from. Tell us why you like your favorite UI more than all the others. And if you don't like any of them, we suggest trying out a new launcher.

    Stock Android please

Bloatware / Redundant - Repetitive Apps are a waste

If it's not broken? leave it alone
If it needs improvement? then do so

Manufacturers - updates to latest Android OS highly important

  • Considering samsung market share and still come second, that means touchwiz is crap. Even the user doesnt like it.

  • im thinking where is Oxygen OS?

  • MIUI is actually pretty neat

  • Hey the samsung agent and provocateur is back... I'vr been using touchwiz for years and must say it's slow, buggy and lags. It's boring as hell. Nothing really better than what stock has to offer in my opinion. Samsung's themes are a joke looks like a girl preschool class that they use to design their themes. At the end of the day touchwiz just take up more unnecessary space on a device and use more battery power. Thus on a device using stock Droid you could have used the device longer before a recharge. Touchwiz is just draining samsung devices from a excellent experience without lag and taking up resources like ram. touchwiz delays the update time for samsung devices we could have had nougat ages ago if it wasn't for samsung that had to add touchwiz first to stock nougat then testing it, fixed it then allowing carriers to add bloatware etc. All of this adds time and causes delays. With stock we could have had nougat by now and as soon as Droid O was released a month at the most we could have had it after Google devices. So it is more of a drawback than a positive touchwiz. And lets be honest touchwiz is not more appealing to the eye it's still boring 2d flat icons and menu's so what is really better than stock. If touchwiz had a engine where you can change the colours yourself and add icons in the settings menus without adding their simple themes then I can say yes touchwiz brings customization but it is nothing more than samsung slapping some boring icons on and adding their samsung bloatware to stock Droid.

i completely agree, the amount of bloatware is crazy, although i did like their attempt at a curved display

    • 1. Since 2015, TouchWiz isn't 'buggy or lag' . The only time when my S6 edge lag was when I was copying a 4 GB movie inside my phone and i was using chrome at the same time.

      2. Most Samsung Themes are not 'girly' and you never went to the Samsung Theme Store to know that. And why do blame Samsung for it. It's the creators of the theme that make it 'girly'. Not Samsung.

      3. TouchWiz does not use more power. Combine that with Samsung own Power Saving mode, my phone last all day and still have 20% juice left. I have only a 2600 mah batt btw

      4. I dont get why people wanted update so bad. Update is just an over-rated issue by arrogant iOS users. TouchWiz doesn't need that much update to get the latest feature as it is always pack with features that competitors take 4-5 years to copy.

      5. TouchWiz is the best looking UI. But that is my personal preferences. So I respect someone who doesn't like the modern feel of TouchWiz.

      6. Please tell me ONE android UI that let me 'change the colours yourself and add icons in the settings menus'. Because from my personal experience, TouchWiz can do that with the theme store

Thanks for straightening that out. These stock Android losers get besides themselves with Google and all this worthless bug infested stock products.

At the end of the day Android wasn't meant to be created equal in the first otherwise we'd all be walking around like those silly iPhone users.

Nobody gave a shit about Nexus products they were low budget and worthless that's why they aren't here today Google couldn't make any money.

Now these silly Pixel handsets are overpriced jokes with no features and still worthless to the android platform.

Samsung is technology and Android period that'll never change.

      • hahaha and as far as I know samsung's still suffer from a ram management bug. Thus touchwiz is also bug infested and I bet there is many more that we don't know of. Is that why samsung is considering moving away from android and towards tizen on their devices, that is what I have read? Like the saying goes: "Pride comes to a fall" never think you can't fall no matter how big samsung is it can change very quickly and then when sammy is gone Android will still be there and just go on without them, they aren't immune to fall. I would suggest change your name to "samsungismyboss".

      • @ James: Well then you are lucky my device lags and I use the latest European firmware available. And it is buggy like I stated infra the ram management issue with samsung devices due to touchwiz/samsung firmware and there's probably more.

To be honest I have a few friends who design themes for the samsung theme store, check my google+ account they are on my friendslist (personal account). I have asked them in the past how it works, their themes are moderated before it is released by samsung and it takes a week or so from the date they send it in before it is placed on the theme store, there have been instances they have told me where their whole theme was declined. So samsung indeed have some form of say over the themes and what they want in the theme store and let's be honest there is more cat themes, looks like the zoo I must add, and pastel colored themes for girls in there than anything else.

Me too I only have a 2600 mAh as well. I can bet you stock takes less resources than a device with touchwiz added, maybe that will be a good test for the Journalists here on AndroidPit to do if I may make a suggestion? With all the added bloatware samsung adds it will already drain a device then add all of the coding of touchwiz that have not yet been taken into consideration that is what I will think. So you have to use more battery draining software ( power saving mode) to stop apps from using resources when touchwiz is the one that takes the resources probably.

I disagree newer firmware is required to fix all the bugs that samsung don't want to acknowledge on their website/security blog. And security updates are needed to close the backdoors that is left open when programming for example and fix other security related issues. So I disagree with you that it's not necessary.

Modern feel you say. Hmmmm I don't know material design is a bit outdated and been used for 10 years or more now? So saying touchwiz is modern is not accurate in my opinion.

Not one, that is why I said touchwiz doesn't allow it so you can just as well use stock Android as it can't either so there's no advantage to touchwiz as it doesn't add customization of the settings menu or dialer. You can just add someones theme to change that and I like to customize my device to my liking not a person that creates themes for samsung. And to add a theme you use even more resources and battery power then add touchwiz you have wasted and drained your battery for nothing useful I would say. Here's what I said in my post supra: "If touchwiz had a engine where you can change the colours yourself and add icons in the settings menus without adding their simple themes then I can say yes touchwiz brings customization but it is nothing more than samsung slapping some boring icons on and adding their samsung bloatware to stock Droid."

um, any device running CyanogenMod like the OnePlus one

      • Cool thanks anvil didn't know CyanogenMod can do that.

Go buy an iPhone that's what Google Pixel phones are and we won't even talk about useless Droid handsets.

Stock Android is just as worthless as you are offering nothing to the user other than bordum, and simplicity which amount to a daily hum drum experience.

At the end of the day Motorola, Google, one plus and any other worthless stock experience is nothing more than low budget bargain basement buying products.

    • If you have that many issues with TouchWiz Jacques, try replacing your 2011 phone with a current one; it will help make you sound less ignorant.

      • Well if you have read any of my posts in the past, clearly you didn't, you would have known that I own s6 edge currently. I didn't purchase a s7 edge as I felt, what is the use, the s6 edge and s7 edge is almost the same so it wasn't a option for me to upgrade to a s7 edge. Wanted to purchase a note 7, but it was never released in south africa as it was recalled before any of the pre-orders left the carrier. So your argumentum ad hominem is actually laughable to say the least as I have a 2015 device and not a 2011 device as you wrongfully assumed.

Definitely the Nature UX of Samsung is tops to me.

In the real world Linux is android which means open source which equates to the fact that Android was meant to be created equal.

Stock Android offers nothing legitimate to the android platform or users, It's bland, uneventful, dull, boring and drastically featureless typically iphoneish.

Least Samsung has great battery management software options, excellent feature enhancements, and the software implementations for users who want to have fun with their handsets on a daily basis.

If it wasn't for Samsung 95% of the features other Android UI"s wouldn't even exist it's Samsung they all copied from.

At the end of the day I've always said since March 2011.

It's pretty much plain and simple Samsung is android and technology nothing else matters.

you seem like the person that's never tried a different ui because you're a Samsung fanboy. I agree that stock may be a little boring but it comes jam-packed with the latest software and features.

I've has HTC Hero, HTC Evo 4g and HTC Evo 3d, LG Revolution, Galaxy Nexus and ZTE MAX PRO.

Those have been my other Android products and I'll be the first to say my Galaxy S2, S3, S4, Galaxy Note, Note2, Note3, Note4, Note5, S6, S6EdgePlus have all been better than any stock Android product period.

If you had the Note 4, how can you claim the Note 5 is better? Because the Note 5 just sucks compared to the Note 4. The 5 only has a slight processor speed edge over the 4. Everything else goes to the 4.
