LineageOS: 30 devices are no longer supported

Alternative ROMs have lost a lot of popularity in recent years but LineageOS, which replaced the famous CyanogenMod system, still manages to hold its own thanks to its community. Unfortunately, sometimes sacrifices have to be made and this time the company decided to stop support for 30 devices.

If customs ROMs were on the rise just a few years ago, the efforts made by manufacturers at the system level and the complexity of installing ROMs for the novice user make them a little obsolete.

As the company has decided to opt for quality - higher demands in terms of expectations - rather than quantity, certain sacrifices must be made. People who make ROMs have responsibilities, when they become inactive the devices are simply no longer supported. This is now the case for 30 devices (smartphones and tablets), and surprisingly they are not just old devices that no one uses.

I have four devices in the home running LineageOS. The lack of engineers working on development is sorely felt. Many projects at XDA only have hobbyists keeping The unofficial builds alive, which means few of them will reach official status since they don't have the skills necessary to fix engineering problems, such as Android Pie breaking Bluetooth on hammerhead. This is very sad to see the era of custom ROMs wind down. I saw a Quora post bemoaning Google choosing to go the way of iPhone instead of freedom. The days of the unlockable bootloader may be numbered.

see 500-700+ downloads for every build of mondrianwifi which is a huge plus giving that tablet some extended love, have been running 14.1 for some time; hope it's enough to keep the builds going. Other custom ROMS from XDA just don't measure up.... thank you Jenkins and Lineage!!!

It's not on the cut list, but all you can be sure of is what you see on the LineageOS website. You can check for future possibilities by searching the unofficial LineageOS builds at XDA.
