Samsung Galaxy Note 2 — email notifications annoying sound

Can anyone tell me how to turn off sound notifications when an email arrives. I have notifications turned off in the email program itself. But I get an annoying bell ringtone. (One not even found in email program) when an email notification comes into my notification bar.
Keeps us up all night . Help please

Check the notification settings on your phone. Depending on your manfr you should have a default notif sound, as well as ringtone, sms, alarm etc. Change that to silent, or something less annoying.
