Samsung Galaxy S3 — Pre Factory Reset Backup

I wonder if anyone has any views on,
' Is Kies good enough for a TOTAL phone Backup' before doing a factory reset?
I have read here that Titanium and Clockwork Mod are used instead.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Titanium backup is the best apk to backup app data. Also you can save your contacts to google account, so you don't want to use Kies.

Note: Titanium backup requires root

So, do I have to 'Root' my phone first, and can I save contacts to my pc instead of Google?

Kies doesn't required any root permission, you can save contacts very easily But Titanium apk requires root permissions. If you don't want to root your phone you can try helium apk

Kies can only sync your contacts,messages. To backup your app data you have to use either titanium apk or helium apk

I will have a look at Helium, although, I do like the idea of a rooted phone.

If you root your phone there are lot of others ways to backup your entire phone.
