I have a samsung s3 and did a factory reset on it. It now has android 4.0.4 on it. Is there any way to update this to anything newer, as the one on it does not work well at all. I tried a program called kies? All it does is show my phone is connected, there is no way to update it with that. I tried through google store, but it seems those are fakes and ad based spam. Just trying to figure out if this can be updated, or is it good for paper weight?

Yes, I think you need to take advantage of Samsung Kies in order to update your device firmware V4.0.4.

The official web for Kies -
https://www.samsung.com/in/support/kies/

Download size < 0.15 MB. But also accurate enough, ad-free & free.
The minimalist app available on Play Store: https://goo.gl/ws42fN

Hi
Is it rooted?
If so look on XDA Developers for a custom rom or other details

Honestly speaking its only good for paper weight. Your phone's hardware is not compatible with the newer version of android OS. I hope this helped.
