DescriptionCamera Backup turns your Android device into an intelligent image tank. Connect your camera to your device with a USB cable and create a full backup of all photos by the push of a button. Next time you repeat this, Camera Backup will only copy the new/additional files from the camera. Having copies of your photos on your Android phone or tablet not only protects against loss of images, it also allows you to edit, view, or share these photos with other Android apps.
Q: What is the use case that Camera Backup was primarily designed for?
A: Imagine you return to your hotel or home after a day of shooting and want to backup your photos, or have them available on an Android device without much hassle. What you want to do is connect the camera to the device, press a button and when you come back from the shower, things are done. When you return, you also want precise feedback on whether the backup was successful.
Q: What does Camera Backup do that a normal file manager can't do?
A: First of all it frees you from the need to select the files you want to copy. Easy? Well, not quite if you are adding a couple of hundred files to your card every day and you only want to copy the new ones every evening. I did not even find a file manager that would let you select several hundred files out of an even larger number easily. Camera Backup copies only the files that are not yet in the backup, fully automatically by the press of a button.
Camera Backup also gives you precise status information as to whether the copy operation succeeded, along with the number of files copied. Even after the device was shut down and started again you can still see when the last backup was performed and with what result.
Camera Backup works with all sorts of files, including JPEG, all types of RAW files (CR2, NEF etc), as well as movies. For Camera Backup to work, your Android device must have a USB host port and mount the connected camera to the file system (typically under /mnt/storage/extcamera). Camera Backup can also backup data to or from memory cards inserted into the Android device.
