A whole lot of fun!
Certain games are so addictive that you end up spending way more time playing them than you had originally intended. It may not be fun having to compensate for wasted time, but nothing can stop you from playing once you’ve started this cool game. “Fish Food” is basically a version of “Bejeweled”, except with big fish chowing down little ones. I found this combination to be loads of fun! Find out if this is the game you’re looking for.
Fish Food is an entertaining little game that reminds me a bit of “Bejeweled”. The aim of the game is to accumulate the most points possible. At the same time you’ve got to make sure your Bubble Bar doesn’t drop to zero or else – game over.
The “Bubble Bar” can be filled up by freeing up space on the playing field. This can be done by eating up fish or getting them to burst. Keep in mind that each fish can only eat the next smaller fish. This means that a big fish cannot eat the smallest fish, for instance. Obviously, the smallest fish cannot eat anybody, the poor fellow. But what can you do: that’s life!
The fish are color-coded and can be easily recognized regardless of their size:
To start your eating frenzy you need to click on a fish and move him in the direction of the next smallest fish. Off the fish goes…and it eats up everything available in its path. In other words, the fish eats and swims until it reaches a fish that’s either too big or too small. Once a row of fish is emptied it’s automatically refilled with new ones. You earn bonus points if you manage to eat more than three fish in a row.
As soon as a fish has digested at least three fish, it mutates into the next biggest fish. Red fish, however, pop when this happens. If one red fish bursts, so do all the other red fish around, which creates a lot of free space and a ton of bonus points for you. There are also mines that can blow all the fish straight out of the water and give you extra points.
The more you play, the faster the Bubble Bar depletes itself. So you’ve got to relentlessly gobble up multiple fish to survive in this cruel water world!
You can try two different playing modes with Fish Food:
Bottom Line:
I find this game to be amazing. I can’t think of another game with the same game concept off the top of my head. In any case, I had a lot of fun playing this game. So much fun, in fact, that it took me longer than usual to write this test report. Not because I got carried away with playing the game, but because I wanted to describe it in the best possible way.
Fish Food is completely intuitive! Everything is controlled with your finger on the touchscreen. The graphics may be a bit childish, but they are well-done and actually kind of cute.
An ad banner appears at the end of each game. To get past you have to press the menu button and select “Skip”. That can be a bit of a drag, frankly.
You can do the following in your options:
All in all, I give this game a “very good” rating!
I tested Fish Food an a G2 Touch and things didn't always run smoothly. But as you can see on the video, the game runs perfectly on the Nexus One...
Fish Food is available for free from the Android Market.
