Namaste to all my friends in the subcontinent, it's a great day for Galaxy S3 owners, who are finally seeing the Android 4.3 update arrive on their Samsungji. It's been a long time coming, and I've been asked more times than I care to remember when exactly it is coming, but the 400 MB OTA update with a build number of I9300XWUGML4 has now begun rolling out.
The update brings with it all the standard Android 4.3 action that other I9300's have received internationally, including TRIM support, which tells your CPU to stop paying attention to empty data blocks (deleted fragments of your internal storage) – you'll just need to have TRIM on your S3 for a day, have the screen off and over 70% battery for the first TRIM run to occur. It'll then happen once a day following this, meaning your S3 on 4.3 will be much snappier than it used to be on 4.2.2.
Other additions with the Android 4.3 firmware include support for the Galaxy Gear, if you're silly enough to spend your hard-earned rupees on one, the new Samsung keyboard and S4 user interface elements. Open GL ES3.0 graphics is standard, as is Smart Bluetooth v4.0. You'll also finally get access to multi-user restricted profiles. But the biggest news in the update is TRIM. With any luck, S3 owners in India won't suffer any of the problems that plagued the UK version of the update and many US customers as well.
You can grab the update on Sam Mobile's Firmware page and flash it manually, or simply hit up Kies and get it that way if you can't wait for the OTA update to arrive.
If you've got the Android 4.3 update let us know how you like it and if you're experiencing any issues. Happy Republic Day for January 26th!
