DescriptionThis is a quick simple real time inbound phone number lookup on whocallsme.com a social database site where users report phone numbers that they are being harrassed by.
(NOTE: THIS IS NOT A GENERAL OR COMPLETE CALLER ID FOR ALL NUMBERS, IT IS INTENDED TO ALLOW A QUICK REFERENCE FOR INBOUND CALLS TO SEE IF OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THEM AS PROBLEMATIC, that is all).
If you are like me and use your phone for business, you can't screen out every inbound number you don't recognize, you have to answer the phone. However, just like everyone else I get calls from folks who aren't business related, and are just telemarketers, scam artists etc.
General Caller ID apps, just don't cut it, knowing the phone call came from xyz corporation at 123 mulberry lane doesn't help me. I may not know the company, but they could be calling me for business so I can't just screen them out.
So I wrote this little app. On an inbound call from a number NOT in your contact list, it will open a query with whocallsme.com and I can see instantly if others on that site have reported that number as problematic, and decide whether or not to answer the call.
If they hang up, or the call goes to voice mail the look up window closes.
To answer the call simply click on the CLOSE button and select answer or decline or use the physical answer/hang up buttons if your phone has them.
This is a very simple app, it has a simple control system with currently only 2 options. The first is ACTIVE, if this is set to unchecked, the app is turned off. It won't do anything. The second is Prompt. If this option is checked the app will prompt you asking you if you want to lookup a number or not. If you select yes, it will open the lookup window, if you select no it does nothing.
You need to make sure you close the control screen via the button after you have made your changes to these settings or you make wind up with the answer call screen being a few windows back instead of just behind the phone number lookup screen.
Also, if you have other applications running that launch screens on inbound calls as well, this application may or may not wind up being the top screen depending on the order of the apps launching on inbound calls, so in this situation use at your own risk.
Also if you are in a country other than the US, I would suggest visiting whocallsme.com and see if you find the site useful for your country, if it does not have much information for calls and numbers in your nation, there is little point in downloading this app.
I hope you find it useful and practical. I know that I do.
