[Updated] Samsung Galaxy S IV leaked pictures/vid: disapointing design

Loie Favre
17

The heralded Samsung Galaxy S IV will be unveiled in the just three days and in the meantime, new leaked images have just hit the web. These were posted in a Chinese Forum and offered not just a few measly pictures, but full-out detailed and up-close-and-personal pictures of the long awaited device. There's a lot of speculation about this newly-posted mystery device? Could it be the real deal?

The outside casing doesn't get me hot and bothered.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but in this case, a thousand speculations. The GT-19502 that is presented here might not be the final version. We already know that Samsung often uses prototypes to test out their new devices' software and hardware, in order to still keep the actual new design under lock and key. The one we see here looks very similar to the S III, except for a few minor changes. For one, the flash is underneath the camera lens as opposed to side-by-side, which we see with the S III. What's more, the speaker is found on the bottom left corner and the Home button has changed just a smidgen. This possible prototype holds a lot of similarities to the Samsung Galaxy Note II as well.

A prototype design with dazzling underlying hardware

There's a twist in the story when looking at the camera's internal hardware, as it's shown in the Anutu test. The device in question runs on Android 4.2.1, offers dazzling visuals on a full HD display with 1080p, up to par internal memory with 2 GB of RAM and a 13MP camera, a shutter bug's dream. Thanks to our avid readers and commentators, we are now aware of the dual SIM card symbol on the device. It is said that this dual-SIM version will be for the Chinese market.

The underlaying data seems promising.

This prototype's legitimacy is still uncertain, but we don't have to wait much longer to find out for sure. The inner hardware and software specifications are, in my opinion, more trustworthy, however I definitely won't get all hot and bothered about the design.

Do you think that this is the ''real-deal'' design or do you think that Samsung has something much hotter up their sleeve?

[Update; 12.03.2013; 09:58 European Time]

We just discovered a video of the infamous device, of which we found leaked pictures. If this is a prototype or the real thing you'll find out just in a few days during the unpacking of the new flagship! Check  it out!

I expect this just a prototype...although every Samsung device at the moment is just a variation on the same basic layout so wouldn't be surprised. A dull offering like this would leave things open for HTC & Sony, etc for those who want something a bit different.

@Mark R.: In my opinion, you're absolutely right. Leaving the device simply like this would be a huge fail and competitors would have a ball. Samsung needs to come out with something new and improved, with all the bells and whistles.

@Louie F, maybe it's best that Samsung & Apple stick to playing it safe and let others push the envelope. I think that really drives innovation because those with the smaller market share need to differentiate. Probably not in anyone's business plan but that's the way of the world!

@you could be right Mark F. Otherwise those underdogs would never have a chance against the big timers. I like YotaPhone for example, a small Russian company. They're creating a cool new half e-reader, half smartphone with a screen on either side of the device. http://www.androidpit.com/yota-phone-hands-video-and-dual-screen-fun

    I agree with Mark.
    I'm sure it's just a prototype.
However, I'd be willing to bet a lot of money, the final product's exterior won't be anything new or innovative.
That's just how Samsung has always been.
They're much more concerned with internal and features, than they are with physical appeal.
But I definitely feel like they're DUE for a mew exterior design!!!
I'm still gonna buy it the day it's released, either way!!!!
But it WOULD be nice if the exterior got a makeover!!!

    I guess we'll see in 3 days.........

    I can't wait, either way!!!!

who really cares about the looks, it's a stupud phone. chances are it's going to be overpriced anyway and most people are going to put it in a case to protect it and no one's gonna see it anyway, so........ who cares. If it bothers you that bad, than don't buy it. :'( whaaa

    Ohhhhhhhh David, David, David......
    Are you literate???
    Can you read???
Or are you some backwoods fuckin redneck hick?!?!
I'm pretty sure I said I can't wait either way, and that I'm buying it the day it comes out!!!
I don't think I was really whining about anything?!?!
All IIII said was they were DUE for a makeover.
And I'm only saying that so they keep up with their competition.
And from what I've heard, it's not gonna be priced any differently than all the other phones in that category.
But for a quad core processor, it's worth it.
Not to mention, the amount of memory this thing's supposed to have!!!!

But I can't stand people who come into a discussion just to run their mouths, and pretend their tough, when nobody was doin anything wrong, except having a discussion that this WEBSITE actually started!!!! Lol.

@the Meltz: hey, we appreciate all comments and feedback, however this isn't the place to insult other Android users. Of course, we believe in free speech (like David was doing, just saying his opinion) but that doesn't mean that it should be at the detriment of others.

    @Loie,

    I completely understand.
I realized afterwards, that I was pretty harsh with him.
I just get really irritated when people online come into a discussion, midway through it, and start blasting the topic of the entire discussion, and try to demean and embarrass the people participating in the discussion.
And they do it for one reason, and one reason only; to get everyone riled up.
    They try to belittle people.
    To me, it's online bullying.
The funny thing is, that's usually all they CAN do, cuz they have a complex in real life, and they know they'd catch a beating. Lol.
So they have to do it online.

Anyway, I apologize for lashing out like that on your website.
I knew I was a little outta line after I wrote it.
I won't let it happen again.

    My apologies.

By the way, do you actually pronounce your last name, the same way Brett Favre pronounces his???
    Just wondering. Lol.
I live in Wisconsin, and have all my life.
I'm a huge Packer fan as well.
I actually have a couple different Packer tattoos. Lol.

So, just wondering if you pronounce it like he does (Farv)????

    Thanks!!!!

No harm done The Meltz, I can see how you could get mad about this. Cyber-bullying is definitely not cool.
Whever people ask me if I'm related to Brett Favre, I always say he's my uncle haha but no, we're not related.
I say my name a bit differently, because in fact, it's a French name. You actually pronounced the ''r' after the v, unlike he does....

sorry that I hurt some feelings, that wasn't my intention.
it's just my opinion about the looks of the phone, and that "I" really don't think it's all that big of a deal, but I guess it was to you. I'm sooo sorry. I'll watch what I post more carefully from now on so I don't offend anyone
