An Open Letter To Apple: Please... Just Stop It Already

by Eric McBride on Feb 3, 2012 5:05:30 PM — read 1,406 times

(picture from Howtogetreal)

Dear Apple,

My name is Eric. I work at a company called AndroidPIT, which is the biggest Android community site in Europe. I spend a lot of time writing about new Android products, as well as new Apple products, and pretty much anything big going on in the mobile world. But recently, I've had to report on a string of cases revolving around patents, who your suing, who's countersuing you, and so on. To be honest, it's quite frankly really starting to get old, and I honestly don't know anymore if anyone actually knows what they are suing each other for.

UPDATED: BREAKING! iPhone and iPad Officially Banned In Germany!

by Eric McBride on Feb 3, 2012 3:02:17 PM — read 3,741 times

Remember that article I wrote about Facebook being afraid of Google, and how relentless of a business force that Google truly is? Well today, Motorola, who is currently in the process of being bought by the big G, flexed it's Android muscle so hard, that...get this....the iPhone and iPad have officially been legally BANNED in Germany.

Petition For Official Samsung Galaxy S ICS Android Update

by Eric McBride on Feb 3, 2012 1:55:42 PM — read 1,485 times

Samsung Galaxy S users were probably pretty bummed to hear that their devices would not get an official update to Ice Cream Sandwich, and I can certainly understand why. Specwise, it would seem fair for the device to get the latest android update, even if it would be missing a few features, and rooting your device to get a semi working update (CyanogenMod lacks the proper code from Samsung to create a proper mod) isn't an ideal situation for all owners of the device. Well the Android community has decided to do something about it, and is officially petitioning Samsung to update their beloved devices. One of our own forum members Alex M has made some pretty good arguments to back up why it should receive the update, and I for one think that this petition deserves the attention of anyone who owns the device.

No...This Is NOT The Samsung Galaxy S3

by Eric McBride on Feb 3, 2012 12:41:58 PM — read 1,524 times

What...the...eff...is....this? Well, I can certainly tell you what it's NOT, and that's the Samsung Galaxy S3. My colleague Kamal saw this picture floating around a few Android blog sites that were apparently speculating that this photo might just be of Samsung's newest flagship device. Do I have a source to confirm it's NOT the device? Hell no, and I don't need one. I can tell you myself with 150% confidence that this "thing“ is definitely NOT the S3, and anyone who's ever seen any of Samsung's newest devices would know that.

Why Facebook Is Afraid of Google's Android

by Eric McBride on Feb 3, 2012 11:45:00 AM — read 1,846 times

Facebook: The company that in many ways changed communication as we know it. Some call it the biggest communication invention since the telephone, which is in many ways a fair statement. With almost a billion users and a reported 5 billion dollar IPO on the way, it's fair to say that Facebook isn't just a company, but a tech giant with the power to make competitors tremble. But every giant can always be overshadowed by a bigger giant, and Facebook has publically revealed that who they fear most, is Google.

Google Bouncer To Market Malware: GET OUT!

That's right malware. Apparently, Google is done playing around with malware creeping into the Android market, and have announced a new layer of security specifically designed to search the Android market for software that could be malicious.

Longest Lasting Android Ever: Why the RAZR Maxx Changes Everything

by Steven Blum on Feb 2, 2012 4:50:35 PM — read 2,803 times

Reviews of the Motorola RAZR Maxx keep pouring in and it looks like Motorola has a winner on their hands. Engadget says they've gotten 16.5 hours of playing the same video over and over again before the Motorola RAZR Maxx ran out of juice. 16 hours! Amazing. With moderate use, the phone lasted Engadget a solid two days before crying out for another charge. The battery life on this thing is nuts!

Ice Cream Sandwich On The HTC Wildfire??

by Eric McBride on Feb 2, 2012 4:34:41 PM — read 2,247 times

(picture from The Android Soul)

EPIC. Just when I think I can't be impressed anymore by the talented Android community, I find things like this. Remember the HTC Wildfire? That low end Android device that runs a very low powered 528mhz processor (yeah, less than 1ghz) 384MB of RAM, and a 3.2 inch display? This device was reportedly not even powerful enough to run Gingerbread, but thanks to the uber talented developers at XDA, you can now get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich on your Wildfire.

Android Powered HTC Phones Can Leak Wi-Fi Passwords

by Eric McBride on Feb 2, 2012 3:37:43 PM — read 2,354 times

(picture from GadgetSteria)

Whoops! Now this isn't very cool, especially considering that I personally own an HTC Sensation! According to reports, and now a direct confirmation from HTC, specific HTC phones are susceptible to an exploit that can steal Wi-Fi credentails and passwords, and send them to hackers.
