Description
Barcode Scanner+, from Sean Owen of ZXing Team, uses the camera on your device to read barcodes of all kinds. After scanning barcodes you find on products, for example, you can discover prices and reviews for it. Or, when scanning newer two-dimensional barcodes, like QR Codes, you can access contact information, bookmarks, web site links and more inside.Barcode Scanner+ is an enhanced version of the popular, free Barcode Scanner application, which is a product of the ZXing open-source barcode scanning library from Google. Barcode Scanner+ is based on the same code, and has been developed by one of the two primary authors of the original Barcode Scanner, Sean Owen.
Barcode Scanner+ includes all of Barcode Scanner's functionality, and is intended as a drop-in replacement for Barcode Scanner. It adds several enhancements:
Better barcode scanning
- New image processing algorithm for detection of 1D barcode formats, including UPC and EAN product codes
- Uses both cores of dual-core processors
- Optionally, scan for Aztec and PDF417 barcodes (note: PDF417 support is 'alpha' quality)
- Rewritten to take advantage of Java 6, Android 2.2+ APIs, and latest Android SDK features

Barcode Scanner+ does not collect, store or transmit information about its users, nor usage of the application. The application accesses personal information such as contacts and bookmarks only in order to implement application functionality, such as sharing contacts and bookmarks by QR Codes on screen.

Wish it used more of the screen area for PDF417 I like that this software is an improved replacement for the free Barcode Scanner so that I don't have to keep two different scanners installed. I can use my phone's camera to capture jpeg images of PDF417 codes from my trade show badges and have them successfully decoded by Data Symbol's online decoder. The same images fail to be decoded by Barcode Scanner+ (plus) with the PDF417 option turned on in options. Live scans of the original printed codes fail as well. I have found that online sample codes that occupy only the center of the screen work well, not much more than the transparent sample overlay image on screen. Codes that come closer to filling the screen won't decode for me no matter how clear they are. I can't squish my tradeshow badge codes into such a small area of the screen without losing too much detail from the codes. I will keep my fingers crossed that PDF417 decode improvements might come eventually. My phone is an LG Optimus V running JerryScript's CM7.2 Backside IHO. Thanks Sean!

PDF-417 support lacking Like several of the other reviewers, I bought this for its PDF-417 support. When you look in preferences, you'll see that PDF-417 is marked as "(alpha)". Even with this option enabled, I haven't been able to parse a single PDF-417 image on my T-Mobile USA G2. It's fast at the other formats.

Great Great app, just needs to enable flashlight automaticaly or in some faster way than going to settings and enabling it.

It shows barcode type which is great. It scans effectively. A good scanner. If only it did msi!
