Description
MX Mariner is a basic mobile marine navigator / chart plotter featuring quilted offline marine charts. All raster marine charts published by NOAA (USA), LINZ (New Zealand) and Brazil Navy are available to install from within MX Mariner as downloadable regions. Each marine chart region download contains all the available charts for it's particular region. Once downloaded, each marine chart region is available for use offline. When online, a road map or satellite image map is alternatively available.
UKHO charts are also available for the United Kingdom, Ireland and Channel Islands. UKHO chart regions are divided into 4 regions and are available as in-app purchases. Each in-app purchase gives you 1 year of free chart updates.
Please see http://mxmariner.com/charts.html for more details on offline marine chart regions available for download.
MX Mariner is useful for marine navigation featuring a simple heads up display showing speed and course. You have the ability to drop waypoints, record tracks and create routes. Routes can be activated and the heads up display will also show bearing and range to next waypoint below speed and course. All waypoints, tracks and routes can be backed up as GPX files. GPX files can be imported and exported to other programs.
MX Mariner also has configurable units of measure for bearings, position, speed and distance. Bearings in MX Mariner can be shown as true or magnetic. Magnetic bearings use the world magnetic model published National Geospacial Intelligence Agency. Speed and distances can be set to Nautical, Statute or Metric. Position can be set to degrees, degrees-minutes or degrees-minutes-seconds. Navigators can also choose to use their device internal magnetometer or gps course to orientate ship on the marine chart. Optionally, heading and course predictor lines can also be shown on the marine chart. MX Mariner also offers configurable back-light levels suitable for daylight to off-shore night conditions.

Pretty good, needs improvement but worth the $$$ Pretty good and I think developer will improve. Cons are User interface is a bit clunky, maps have a rendency to pixelate (they arent raster built maps but scanned pics). Pros are this is great for general planning, nm estimates, getting waypoint locations, and very fun to be abke to see lots of maps.. Way cheaper than buying maps, but certainly no substitute. Free sw available on PC is more detailed but one cant argue with the convinience of this. Worth the money if devel continues :-) Running on galaxy 10.1

Nice chart viewer. Everything works smooth and fast on my Moto Photon. You can't choose just any chart in the NOAA library, the app gives you a limited list that you can choose from, and I would like to load a chart for a little farther offshore in the Gulf because the coverage seems to end where our artificial reef zones begin (AL). But that is a nit pick, the app itself works very well. Add the ability to import/export waypoints and run routes and you will have a 5 Star app!

Worked great until i downloaded more charts Was awesome. I dismissed additional charts and now no charts are displayed, just a pixelated map.

Best mobile marine charting app I'm really impressed with MX Mariner - even though it's still under active development and getting new features, it's one of the best Android charting apps, and by far the best at this price point. Most charting apps are completely unusable in the real world - either they require a full-time data connection, or require downloading individual BSB charts in advance. Some don't even support chart quilting, so you have to open a new chart as your location moves from one chart to the next. MX Mariner gets this right - download charts for a whole region, and that's it. MX Mariner quilts charts together automatically, and no data connection is required for charts within each region once downloaded. As an experienced sailor and cruiser with thousands of blue water miles, I have a pretty good idea what makes a usable navigation app. MX Mariner already useful, and getting better with each new version! Really looking forward to seeing some of the planned features come along - but even so, this is a great app and well worth checking out. It works flawlessly on both my Android phone and 7" Android tablet. Give it a try!

Fantastic Works perfectly on the Droid Razr -- and I'm someone that tries hard to make software crash (and usually succeeds). I've now used it on two cruises in the San Juans and it's the best of any other simple navigation program. Charts were easy to download. Best part: FAST. Also, I was surprised at the battery usage -- lasted a lot longer than I expected (sorry, didn't record how long I had the program running). If the (I think forthcoming) additions allow for route planning and a track log, this could completely replace my laptop. As it is, I didn't turn on a chart plotting program once. By far the best marine Android app I've used so far.

Fantasic App!! This app is best marine navigation App I have found. Works flawlessly on my HTC Thunderbolt and my Motorola Droid. Wanted a handheld GPS for kayaking. This app does exactly what I need. Easy to use intuitive user interface. Well worth the $6.99. Beats any marine GPS app out there. Buy it, you won't be sorry. Even works on my old Droid that is not even activated!

Terrific App App is stable with fast zoom and pan graphics on Moto Xoom & Dinc 2. Easy to load NOAA Chart regions vs State or tiled downloads. Zooms into small areas with very good resolution. Highly recommend!

Just keeps getting better Had the opportunity to Beta test this app. It was solid right from the start. It's nice to see this type of Craftsmanship at such a reasonable price range. I look forward to using it more this spring in the Puget sound and San Juan Islands. now lets work on saving and exporting tracks...
