I recently read a bunch of threads about conserving battery life with Android phones and kept running into the idea that taskmanagers are harmful for phones because they eat up alot of battery power. Is that true? Aren't they there to help you control your power usage by killing processes you don't need?

It doesn't hurt the phone per se but the idea behind always wanting to have some much ram free as possible comes from Windows and dont forget that Android is based off of linxs which has a different operating structure. You a better way to speed up your phone would be to free up storage space as that also frees up Ram in a way that better works with the linx system. Of course thats not the only way to go about it and traskmanagers help, they will eat up battery if they are always running in the background.
